Missing CX-3 Presets - ENJOY

I just found there are 'only' 64 presets in the CX3 so probably creating a conversion tool is a bit too much overkill.

But if somebody has already a CX3 default PCG (or an own made) I can see what I can do to help.

I did not put it on my wish list since as you say, it only needs to be converted once ... I guess more people will be interested in the PCG so ... anybody?

It would be nice to have a tool that could create all the prgrms from a table perhaps in csv format!

We play a smattering of 70s/80s rock including stuff like Journey, Kansas, A-Ha, Yes, Rush, Whitesnake, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, The Police, Pink Floyd, Tears for Fears, Asia, Toto, Night Ranger, Duran Duran, etc. I was using a single Fantom G6 before so I'm still using that. I had 3 years invested in programming patches and sampling sounds from soft synths and other hardware (mostly my Motif XS). In the end, I realized that I was spending a lot of time trying to get the Kronos to sound like the Fantom so I decided to stick with the Fantom. The G6 is built like a tank and I have 2 of them in case something goes wrong.

I did take the Kronos out live a couple of times, but I had a couple of problems with it: the CX-3 cuts out completely sometimes when I'm playing aggressively and the entire keyboard froze up once between sets (requiring a reboot). That put an end to that.

I am also in a prog band covering mostly older Genesis and Yes and am using the Kronos for that project. I have a Keystation 88es hooked to the Kronos 61 via single USB cable that provides power to the Keystation and transmits MIDI from the Keystation to the Kronos....totally brilliant!

Drawbar curve (Mellow or Bright) is missing from the settings in this page. Also Noise Level is missing. Wonder why?

And what Plate reverb should be used?

Also, part of the page in the Kronos manul that shows the differences between the original Korg CX3 and the Kronox CX3 says the following:

"Rotary Speaker Acceleration and Deceleration - The Rotary Speaker Acceleration/Deceleration parameters were named “Transit” on the original CX‐3. Their ranges are also reversed from the original CX‐3, in order to be consistent with the rest of the KRONOS system: 0=slow, and 100=fast"

The above statement confuses me. Both the Kronos and the CX3 manul describe the 'Transit' settings the same, 0=slow, 100=fast. Yet they made the statement above about reversing their ranges. What is correct? Based on the link above, should I be subtracting the transit settings from 100 to get the correct transit settings for Kronos?

The original CX3 keyboard did not have the Drawbar Level Curve or Noise Level parameters. These must have been added as a system update at some point, but I don't know the history of that product. Compare the Group One parameters in this original CX-3 manual ( on page 17):

I would have to do a little detective work (more like archeology ! ) to find out what the proper settings would be to sound like the "original" CX3. The CX-3 that I have here in my office is one of the later versions with the Drawbar Level Curve and Noise Level parameters included. There may be other differences in CX-3 keyboard versions, but again I would have to investigate.

Also, I noticed that the parameter settings shown in that document are not exactly the same as what I see on my "updated" CX-3. For example, in program A-1 Organized, the document shows Output Level = 110, where my CX-3 shows Output Level = 94. I also see slightly different values for Overtone Level, Leakage Level and Off Click Level. So, this document is shows settings for the original CX-3 version but at some point later, some parameters (at least DB Level curve and Noise Level) were added and some voicing was tweaked.

But I will say this, when I go though and set the parameters one by one, I can make my Kronos CX-3 EXi sound exactly like my CX-3 keyboard. I've heard some folks say that somehow the original CX-3 sounds different from the Oasys and Kronos versions. If so, it's because of parameter settings, not because of the algorithm or some code mix up. When the parameters are set correctly, the two do sound the same.

There are some important and significant differences between the CX3 keyboard and the Oasys/Kronos versions in the Rotary settings - specifically the speed, acceleration and mic distance parameters - which probably account for most of the difference in sound. I'll respond to that in another post since this is long already!
