I just watched the SonicState video of the Casio XW-P1, and I like this new synth a lot!
Considering that it costs only $500 I find it irresistible.

Something completely different, which also was featured at NAMM, was Yamaha's acoustic conditioning panel, which is only 3cm thick and features a combination between absorption and scattering.
If you're looking to improve the acoustics this might be worth checking out.
Here is the link to Yamaha's site.

Damn, those do look tasty, I can't wait to hear the second keyboard in action.. I just purchased the M50 from KORG and the Karma software for it recently, but these really do look like tepting additions and my mind is already starting to go hmmm , I need to come up with some cash this summer. :D

$500 is definitely an attractive price point and it seems to have a decent amount of capability. Over at Harmony Central, Mike Martin also confirmed that there will be a PC/MAC editor (although it wasn't said if that is included in the price, or is separate).

Pretty impressive for $500 street. "Back with a vengeance" indeed. I love the step sequencer and the 6 oscillator mono synth. Drop an iPad on the integrated rubber mount surface and the possibilities for this "entry-level" synth become huge... dozens of synth engines and so much more. And it runs on batteries as well. With my Roland KC-110 amping the proceedings, campfire jams will never be the same again.

It was a pleasant surprise to hear from Mike Martin that this is just the beginning of a Casio resurgence in the "pro" market. It will be interesting to watch how Casio moves forward in this regard.

In my view one of the best things released...apart from the Line 6 touch screen digital mixer (but too exxy), is this offering from Behringer...

An interesting point was made in the last part of a post on the Moog Music Forums by user CTRLSHFT (not me btw) re the Arturia Minibrute
(bold emphasis edited in by me)
CTRLSHFT wrote:... Let's see what this thing can really do once it hits the streets. I have a really good feeling about it and it's capable sonic palette, and think in time it's going to be a legendary everyman piece. Also, if nothing else, this should really put Korg's lazy production team into action on a real non-toy analog synth. It's FAR past time for them to get on board. They've done the market research, they've tested the waters, and now they have proof in product, the analog hordes are hungry, and if Korg isn't serving, Arturia's a good bet in a price range that will likely force them to be competitive.

We've just gotten our new SH-101. Time for Korg to give us our new MS-20. :)
Good point I thought! KORG?

Between the new Casio XWs, the kaossilators, and the Arturia miniBrute, I'd say this is a pretty decent NAMM....I don't think its as bad as some people have been making it out

I was looking at getting a 61 key MIDI controller to go along with my Kronos 88. Now I'm really considering the Casio XW-P1 instead, with it's $499 price. I would get a whole new synth to play with as well as a decent backup if the Kronos has problems mid-show. At only 11 pounds, that's not much extra to haul to shows/rehearsals. Plus, that rubber pad on the upper right solves the question about where to put my Nanopad2. I'm looking forward to trying it out in March.

Perhaps they will eventually introduce a full-blown workstation with touch screen and several synth engines... for under $1000.

It would be interesting to see what they could do at the $3000 price point.
