midi note off command on Gobal Master channel

Post by pbuchta »

Currently have Kronos (Global master channel is 1)and M1 (Global Master channel is 16).
On the Kronos on channel 16 of combination programs I have Kronos sending midi combination program change commands to M1.

Channel 16 of the Kronos combination program is off and no note on commands are sent
but
note off commands are sent from the Kronos Global Master channel and shuts off the same sounding notes on the M1.

Please advise.

Thanks.

Ok. So here is the workaround.

On a combination program Midi Filter/Zones>Keyboard Zones.
Set Zone keys on Channel 16 to C-1 for the bottom and C-1 for the top.
Viola! No more note cut off except on key C-1.
I can live with that, but I know some freaks here who will say that this is unacceptable and want a complete refund for the keyboard.
Sheesh! What's next?

In Combi mode, EXT channels will send out note data from the global channel, to allow you to control external keyboards.

Setting the keyzone to something out of the range of the keyboard is the workaround I use as well on my KARMA and other Triton series synths.

This does not happen in Song mode though. Whilst the two modes are very similar, this is one of the main differences in the MIDI routing - EXT timbres/tracks don't echo notes and controllers from the Global channel.

Thanks X-Trade. I appreciate the feedback.

What is strange though in this instance is that in a combination program the mute button on channel 16 will mute note on command data sent by the Gch but not note off command data sent by the Gch. Glad to see that I am not going crazy here. Definitely a small bug that should be addressed by Korg. Logic should follow that the mute note function should mute both the note on and note off command data. Best, Pete.

Actually, yes. Didn't see that you're using the Mute button
This sounds like a bug.

Perhaps you should report this to Korg.
