Whats best for Live setup.. Combie or Sequencer?

Post by johnnydr »

I've been setting all my patches up in Combie mode, assigning different sounds to each channel,so I can fade them in or out with the control surface sliders. I will make up a bunch of these for my specific needs and assign them to different slots and call them up when Ineed them
Isee a lot of you are using sequencer mode.
Is there a benefit to using seq mode (or is it just because you're playing a song on one of the tracks?

I always use combinations (sometimes programs if I only need one instrument in a song we play). Then I make a setlist to assign the programs and combis.

I think some use the sequencer to use either a backing track or maybe a metronome/clicktrack.

I have two copies of the set list (which contain all songs we play). One is sorted by the order within the gig with some locations for 'start of set 1', 2 etc.
The other one is an alphabetically ordered list.

That's a good idea

I've setup my set lists exactly the same way!
First set list contains just the playlist and nothing more
Second set list contains all songs including the old stuff we've done in the past, and the new songs that we've been working on.

I haven't taken the trouble to reprogram old songs we don't play anymore, but yes, I also will use a set list slot for old stuff (or ideas that didn't pass the 'test' ).

Helps from Karma-lab Wiki

Post by Myq »

Greetings to all .

Not sure whether this helps or not , but in response to your topic / question , I think you can check this out :

http://karma-lab.wikidot.com/korg-m3:us ... erformance

This is an article regarding Using SEQ mode as a "super combi" for live performance , and comparing the benefits of using COMBI and SEQ mode for live performance . It's written for M3 but I think it's the same for Kronos .

Hope it helps .

Best wishes to all .

Very cool. Though, it looks like the M3 ha a bit more capability in specifying SysEx data, i.e. to control effect params, etc. Perhaps we can hope for some of this sort of additional capability in a future OS version. Pretty sure not every parameter can be changed through simple CC#'s.
