Making your own sounds (programs)

Post by jamiepoetry »

Hi there. Striking problems trying to create my own sounds. Pulling up a program and then changing the parameters in real-time only to lose the save sound after the M3 is turned off and also losing the enhanced parameters as soon as I change the sound.

What is the best and easiest way to make and save your own sounds?

Thanks for any help in advance!

The real-time parameters are just that; real-time. They are generally not saved with your program. You have to go to the various edit pages to make lasting edits. E.g. to the "filter" page to edit cutoff and resonance, to the "amp" page to edit eg release, etc.

Ahh, many thanks there. WIll do. Okay, and after you save the sounds on the edit page to the appropriate user banks they stick and don't disappear after you turn the keyboard off?

Yes. Any saved program stays in memory. You can overwrite any program or pick an "empty" spot (usually called init program xxx).

If you run out of empty spots or want to backup stuff you can save entire banks of programs (or all the programs and settings, actually) to disk/usb drive by going to disk mode. You can reload them from here again as well, either by bank or by single program. Takes like 10 seconds.

Most non-Korg products have set presets and then a much smaller "user memory" - it takes some time to get used to a synth where you can overwrite EVERY "preset", but since you can save and load to disk so easily, once you get used to it, you'll never want to go back.

Happy editing! :)
