guys I messes myself all up today....

i was pretty much leaning toward not making either purchase. I was gonna just use the gear I got and squeeze it till blood came out!!!! I was leaning that way and leaning hard.

but today I went into a guitar center just to play a kronos. id played a 61 key before.... but never an 88.... I was hoping they had one to demo....

now what in the world did I do that for......????

they had an 88..... OH CRAP!!!!

I loved it.
the feel!!!!
the keys!!!!!
the look!!!!!

the footprint!!!! it was so small ams clean looking...51 pounds is nothing....compared to what I've been carrying around.

loved the sound!!!!!!
the interface!!!!!!

man the interface was very nice. seemed like it would be fun getting to know it and learning my way around. I know my way around korgs and as similar as this was....it was still VERY different. I liked it though!!!

ill have to be honest though, the piano didn't do much for me. I only played the very first piano patch.... very bright to my ears (this was on the guitar center speakers though) .... it didn't make me say WOW..... sorry guys. but it didn't. the electric pianos and Rhodes though....they did. I love that bell sound that leaks through!!!!

other than the large time j spent playing the eps I spent the rest of the time trying to figure out how to make a program from two engines...(mini combi is what I'm calling it) once I figured it out, I then couldn't figure out how to make the second exi layer play through the entire keyboard range. I figured that out, but the one thing I didn't find was how to turn the individual volumes of the two exis down so I could make a nice mix between the two patches.

I enjoyed trying to figure it out though. crazy at it seems.... imthe only other engine I touched was organ patch and one ms20 patch....and it was for a split second just while learning to layer exis in program mode. I didn't touch anything else....what in the world did I miss?

here's the kicker though. the sales Guy was kinda aggressive, but in a nice and smooth kinda way. he told me that the only one they had in stock was the demo I was playing.... he said it was still new so that he could not take a ton off the price. we talked a bit and I asked him if he could match prices he asked what he was matching.... I gave him details. he talked to his manager and then he made me an offer I couldn't refuse (or could I?????) he said he could match the price and that he could make a few phone calls and have one delivered directly to my door. and I wouldn't have to wait long either. he knew this for sure!!!!! the crazy thing is that the offer that he matched is a standing offer that ill get once they come in stock. (a very great price and WELL WORTH WAITING FOR....) but now I can get one immediately for the same price. and boy does that really change the dynamic.

like I said I'm all messed up in the head. I've said for a while now that if one fell into my lap id pull the trigger. and I would not force my way..... I kinda think this is equivalent to falling in my lap.....

anyway,.... I walked away. I wanted to think about it a little more...plus I need to sell my extreme 88.

and now that I know about the kit to install a second ssd drive in my Mac book pro I've REALLY eliminated the need to buy a imac right now... (and I think I'm getting an ipad for my bday next month.....the kronos looks to be that much more tempting...and now that its a reality that if could happen sooner than expected I think I'm gonna unload one more piece other than the extreme 88 in order to make it that much easier.....

so the question is what will it be.... I think it gonna be the xr rack. any suggestions here are always welcomed!!!!!!

m3m is untouchable...... so don't suggest it. thanks guys. I may be joining the group REAL SOON.

looking forward to hearing what you all think.

later!!!!

I am yet to see one (can't get it in the state I live and can't afford to fly to another state just to try it out). Sounds like it was a pretty good deal and you are happy with the decision.

My thunderbolt display came in today. It is great for anyone using a thunderbolt capable Mac. There is absolutely no loss of speed using the display as a hub, so you can have all your gear attached to the various monitor ports and simply attach your MacBook to the display via the attached power cord and thunderbolt cable. I have the Kronos, Jupiter and V attached via USB and a SSD attached via FireWire 800. There is an additional thunderbolt connection which will be ideal for thunderbolt capable storage. I'm using the Bluetooth pad and keyboard and just keep the MacBook closed. I normally attach audio via optical, but I think my mini adapter got vacuumed earlier today.

I believe apogee is developing a thunderbolt audio interface for their modular unit.

Nice room and setup. I'd move the other instruments closer to Shiggy Stardust, and maybe manage the cables a bit for a cozy spot. Your config is great for playing with others though

I too am in a praise band at church, and in the few weeks I've had my Kronos, I can truly say it's completely changed everything about how and what I'm playing at church.

Best wishes with your decision!

Hi,

How are you using the Kronos for Praise & Worship? Are you just playing sounds or are you utilizing the additional features (Karma, drum track, etc)?

Peace

Th Shigeru doesn't need company. I rarely turn on my other gear when I play it.

The keyboards are set up for easy access from the drum stool but I move them around alot so I gave up on managing the cables.

I've never played keyboards with someone else but maybe I'll get my singer to lay down some bass lines on the Jupiter the next time she comes by.

I think he kinda answered this question a bit after he posted it. I think I asked the same thing.

I'm using an m3 in my church services now... I've not had the guts yet to integrate and introduce karma to them yet, (or drum tracks...), I'm going to start with the drum tracks though, and then move on from there. I don't want it to be TOO much culture shock.

I JUST ORDERED MY KRONOS-88!!!!!!

Post by apex »

Well,

I took the plunge!!!! Unbelievable price, and unbelievable how hard the decision was to buy vs not to buy....

I just don't understand why I struggled so much with the decision.

I've placed my Fantom XR on eBay, just to help with the "greed" factor.

My Kronos-88 should be here Friday or Saturday.

hopefully all the butterflies, eye twitches (LOL), & sleepless nights go away.

Now I just need my Triton Extreme 88 and my Fantom XR to sell...

But I'll worry about that later... for now, I'm gonna rest and wait!!!!
