It's a good day for sure, but there is no escaping causality. His replacement is no doubth planning on murdering innocent people right now. Shame they are not all in one place. One American nuke would put an end to it all and the world would be a much better place for it.

Can't believe it took nearly 10 years to get this guy though.

Can't decide if this is fantastic news, or bad news.

I am reminded of the line in the great film Tora, Tora, Tora, where after the Japanese destroyed Pearl Harbour, a Japanese general amidst much jubilation said "I fear all we have succeeded in doing is to awaken a sleeping giant..."

I hope that the powers that be know what they're going to do next...

make no mistake: the "sleeping giant" was the USA then, and it is now.

The USA who tamed imperialist Japan was a poor, ravaged, hungry country who had lived a 10-years horrific economic crisis.

Nonetheless, they had the force of steering Japan 180' on the route to modernity, and of saving Germany from wasting its civilization in the abyss.

They are still stronger than all accomplices of Osama put together. Saudi air force is in the same league as Luxembourg, Pakistan has the GNP of two cafes in New Jersey.

If US military was not hampered by diplomatic considerations, if push REALLY came to shove, policing Afghanistan would amount to 15 days of hard work.

So, those who need to be carefulk not to awake a giant, are Osama's heirs.

It's taking a decade because the giant IS sleeping.

Fanatic extremist islamism is NOT a "sleeping giant". It's paper tiger.

"What are the "powers that be" to do next?"

Give everybody what he wants: life to those who love life, death to those who claim to be martyrs.

1) manage in a decent way the Arab uprisings. Let the Muslims get the civil rights they wish for. Let political dynamics replace blind rage and resentment.

2) Keep killing assassins and tame violent minorities here and there.

Help the weak who look for a better life, kill psychotic millionaires who lust for annihilation and troublemakers who feed war in other people's home (Syria in Lebanon, Iran more or less everywhere, etc).

Frankly: I see the difficulties, I see the complexity and the challenges, I am no starry eyed optimist,

but today I can't stop smiling.

What a wonderfully philosophical post, ozy!

Find myself agreeing with everything you said.
