Programs/Combinations

Post by pugface »

I would like to know if anybody has found a good resource for M50 programs/combinations? This seems to be the only location - "downloads" i have found and there aint much although those that are here are very good.

Hear the Jarre oxygene phase Eminent310 preset in Jarre / Vangelis Created by shartep ..... its Oxygene!!!!!!!!!!
thanks shartep.

Could i upload some of my patches here?

also can M3 patches be used in the M50? i think i heard they could.

Pug -

There are factors could be contributing to the lack of patch support.

Consider -

History of M-50 is pretty short compared to triton. The support was built over time and depends on contributions gathered and coordinated from many sources.

Community - time will build community... but only if you do what you can to build network. Meet other players? Tell 'em where you get support. KF are a pretty good synth specific meeting place.

M-50, nice as it is, is a second tier offspring of the M-3. You'll almost never find the same support for that second tier. So you have to look to the first tier for patch support. Triton LE and Karma luck out by being essentially the same engine as triton classic.

Lastly, YOUR creativity is challenged by this lack. Where's YOUR PCG bank posted? Have only a few programs or combis of which you're REALLY proud. Submit them here. Suggest a programming challenge. Open a PCG swap thread... that can be very genre specific -- even down to the band or song level. Look at the number of nightwind posts here to get an idea of what people are trying successfully.

Try these ones:

http://korgfans.ning.com/

http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/KORGM50USERSGROUP/

You have to sign in, but it´s worth it.

There you can download patches and also upload them, more recommended that this forum (lot of delay to upload them).
100% hardware made. All is done in a Korg M50 internal sequencer. Now updated (7/09/12) at http://www.hispasonic.com/akmon

Yes i agree about the need to build up a sharing community.

i just started developing patches as i got put off by the complexity of the m50 synths structure. as my virus and sh-201 are much more intuitive.
i still cant get my head around AMS. but its coming to me.

i wish korg had provided more init progs. but i guess over writing the existing factory ones is ok.

i havent found a way of saving a single program as one file on SD card or PC with the editor.

Does anybody know how to?

Pugface,

Re: saving a single program - Mostly you don't. PCG's are saved at the bank level (at the least); you CAN save smaller increments by choosing the level of save, from a single bank up to a full system save.

Re: Init spaces - you can save a whole bank or whole synth full of init COMBI's. But be very careful about overwriting at the PROGRAM level -- doing it in haphazard fashion will have an impact on the combi level in multiple spots. Combis are "stupid", they look for the slot number, not the sound; example - if you save piano program in the slot where a combi expects to find drums you'll get a BAD sounding combi, GLOBALLY, for any combi that used that drum kit.

Overwriting the factory programs is NOT recommended. If you MUST overwrite a program try to make it the same type or close to the same sound (i.e., a tweak) rather than something radically different.

---------

As a starting point for writing your own combis, find some you like and work with substituting voices, and changing effects - these are minimal tweaks that can have quick and nicely musical results for you.

thanks for the response.

i dont do much with combi's only as starting grounds for multiple set ups. thanks for the tip. so am not worried about ruining existing combi's and some of them are just not my genre anyway and are a bit too conventional and not explorative. i think korg have showed too much the m50 as an emulator and not enough of synth. i find the filters are very good and mod routings are good. they sound very much like the filters on a polysix.

its a shame a single program cant be retrieved all the other synths i own are able to. a single prog can be auditioned from the sd card though i think.

You're right about the audition function. Open a PCG and navigate down to the single level and you'll see the individual programs -- any media (in my case Tri-Ex SD or USB). Once you're at that level just scrolling through will let you audition sounds without having to load first. You can cherry pick the one's you like and ignore the rest. Loading individual sounds (programs) from this level is also pretty quick - you just pick a slot and press yes.

To me the 'bank save only' is not really that big a deal - - if you write lots of programs you just save them all to a "ME" bank that you can save or load as you wish.
