Ok, the DAW integration on the Kronos is seriously cool, and something that I wish the OASYS had every time I work in Logic. If there's any real envy for me, that's where it lies.
The thing that bums me out though? I rather liked that the O was discontinued. I've created hundreds of music clips the last few years for various online game websites for Mattel toys, some TV shows, and a movie release or two (for a big studio that unfortunately, I can't advertise I've worked for... but that's another story!). The O was used extensively in those productions.
Now that the mass-market sibling to the O shares its sound-generating capabilities, those same sounds and the overall character of the instrument are available to a wider audience. Even one of the demo Kronos videos uses an OASYS sound that I incorporated (yes, gadzooks, a PRESET *gasp*) into a recent soundtrack I did.
Selfish, I know!
Bummed about one thing (ok, two), re: Kronos/OASYS

Yeah too right selfish.....and proud to say so,we invested big money into the machine so when something comes out and everyone gets hold of it you feel a little.....for want of a better word...Normal.
I know exactly where you are coming from.
I too crave for the DAW integration.....and the lighter weight. I have to gig with my OASYS 76 and its heavier than the 88 note KRONOS.
Boo hoo

Does this mean our O's are essentially worthless now?
I feel the same way as both of you.
Happy on one hand because now this will lead to better products at lower prices for all of us (now and in the future)
Sad because we have lost the 'exclusive' nature of having the best sounding keyboard available.
It annoys me a bit that I bought my 88 used a little less than a year ago and with all expansions etc paid about $6,300, now a year later we can get something better, lighter and smaller for $3,800, sure, who wouldn't feel slightly irritated. At least if there was an 'inkling' in the wind something like this was coming, I would've waited.

Agreed. But are you sure about 7000 units? There is no proof at all how many they built.markuk wrote:I think after some time that the Oasys will be worth more than the Kronos.
Korg only made around 7000 Oasys but they will probably make hundreds of thousand of kronos. Once kronos is not the latest workstation this is when i think as a collectors item the Oasys will be worth a lot more.

I think 7,000 is a good estimate; perhaps too high.SoulBe wrote: [Agreed. But are you sure about 7000 units? There is no proof at all how many they built.

Karma-Lab has a a thread where OASYS owners could post their serial Numbers:
http://www.karma-lab.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6456
The highest OASYS 88 S/N is 2123; the highest OASYS 76 S/N is 1221.
Korg has separate S/N for the 88 and 76 models and they started with 00001. Assuming a reasonable number of OASYS owners (especially ones who purchased later) posted their S/N, one can then assume that Korg produced 7,000 units or less.
