Really? I think that's news. Isn't the architecture the same as the O.?
Yes and no. The OASYS effects choke when you change to a new sound. The Kronos doesn't, not even when changing from prog to COMBI mode. You can hold down the note and it doesn't get cut off at all.

There's also the new effects that come with EP-1.

Sharp.

It's a lovely place. The weather today was fantastic too.

Love the food. There's so much choice.

Cheers
Sharp.

PS... got to go out now and eat some of that American Steak I've been hearing about.

What is your sense of the real delivery date? I heard March, but I'm skeptical of what is promised.

All the numbers related to polyphony- does that mean each engine, by itself, generates that much polyphony, but you start mixing in more engines and the polyphony of each engine is reduced accordingly?

So, what do you mean by 10 seconds load time for 1 GB? The SSD has the body of the sound and the attacks are handled in RAM? When you switch to one of the streaming sounds that's available immediately, right?

What is the second joystick for?

Is the Kaoss pad function of the M3 implemented?

What is your sense of Korg as a company with long term vision and product development and commitment to their market? I know many Oasys users felt abandoned, and Korg seems MIA on your M3 forum (with no more updates in sight), but then they pick the ball right up and come up with this kick ass breakthru board.

Personally, I'm thrilled- the SSD is fantastic of course, and HD-1 engine (and I presume the higher-quality-than-M3 converters) is great- but I'm tired of sample playback- that's exciting to have so many modeled / cloned / virtual engines on board!

What are your favorite features (for a board in this price range, and as an Oayses owner)?

Thanks!

Thanks for all the info, Sharp. Glad to hear that the sound quality is at least as good, if not better.

Coming from the O, is there anything you didn't like? e.g. is the fact that the screen is smaller & non-tilting an annoyance, or do you think you'd get used to that very quickly?

I'm really bummed that the 73 key is weighted -- I just can't deal with weighted action. Guess I'll have to hold onto my Oasys 76...

Sorry, that's one for KORG.

The total amount of poly is shared dynamically and assigned based on where it's needed thanks to some clever programming.

So, what do you mean by 10 seconds load time for 1 GB? The SSD has the body of the sound and the attacks are handled in RAM? When you switch to one of the streaming sounds that's available immediately, right?
When you switch to a streaming sound, Yes, there is no delay because the sound was preloaded on bootup. I'm simply saying that if you want to load something its going to load up to 1GB in about 10 seconds.
What is the second joystick for?
It's a Vector Joystick.
Is the Kaoss pad function of the M3 implemented?
That's where your vector joystick comes in.
What is your sense of Korg as a company with long term vision and product development and commitment to their market? I know many Oasys users felt abandoned, and Korg seems MIA on your M3 forum (with no more updates in sight), but then they pick the ball right up and come up with this kick ass breakthru board.
KORG's commitment will be the same as always, it will do exactly as it says on the label. If your hoping of future Engines for it, well.... it's not being advertised as an OPEN synth. That's not to say they won't, I'm just saying, buy it for what it does now. It's more machine than the existing OASYS, and it costs less than half the price. This is a total no brainier to me.

It's a VERY VERY deep machine.

As for your comment on the M3, well the M3 got the Xpanded updates for free. It's not like KORG abandoned people on that one. They got more than any other closed keyboard has ever got.
Personally, I'm thrilled- the SSD is fantastic of course, and HD-1 engine (and I presume the higher-quality-than-M3 converters) is great- but I'm tired of sample playback- that's exciting to have so many modeled / cloned / virtual engines on board!
HD-1 is far better than the M3 sound wise. Ask any OASYS user who has an M3.
What are your favorite features (for a board in this price range, and as an Oayses owner)?
Hmmm... has to be having 9 synths in 1.

Sharp.

The side panels are glossy. Glossy = Finger print stains.
lol... I hate my iPhone too for the same things, but I also love it for what it can do.

is the fact that the screen is smaller & non-tilting an annoyance, or do you think you'd get used to that very quickly?
A tilting display would be nice, but it is still the best quality screen KORG have put in a workstation yet. I could live with it very easily.

Sharp.

Hi Sharp,

Would you know if you have the drum pattern going on a progrom or combi and you change to another sound, does the drum pattern continue or does it stop?

For example if im playing an organ sound and i press the drum button will the drum pattern continue if i change the program to a piano sound?

Hope this question makes sense. Im referring to the drum button that was portered over from the m3

Thanks

kronos' availability in singapore, mid-end Feb. and they are 95% accurate on availability dates based on my experience with the distributor in singapore.

Korg SV1, PS60, Microstation was available here in malaysia, about 1 month earlier than in US.

So based on the info written here so far, it ships with 30 GB SSD with 12 GB of sample content. Users can save samples to the remaining 18 GBs. Can we edit samples directly on the SSD?

Also, how does streaming use RAM exactly? If there is 1 GB of RAM, how much of it will be taken up streaming the 4 GB piano? Does every model ship with 1 GB of Ram or do we have to buy and install it?

*Looked at info on Korg's website. It appears there is 1GB of PCM Ram which is used for the PCM libraries. 273 MB are remaining after PRELOAD.KSC is loaded.

Then there appears to be a maximum of 512 MB of sample RAM. It doesn't indicate if it ships with this amount or if we have to install ourselves.

But didn't KORG add several new EFX, mostly for the EP-1 and I guess also added some rooms / reverbs for the SG.

Thank you Sharp for the valuable information.

Yes, I know you've got good ears for that - but how could you evaluate the sound of KRONOS vs. OASYS in such noisy environment?

Hi Sharp,

thanks for that insight view.

Maybe I overread ...

can we load the sounds into OASYS that are created for Kronos using only the engines that are in OASYS as well? Or can only Kronos load Oasys sounds?

best Regards
