Hallo Daniel!

Schön, dass ein weiterer Profi hier reinschaut - but I'll better continue in English!

Referring to your Korg video:
I'm curious: Why do you use the sequencer mode when playing live (and not the combi-mode)? I guess cause you're using sequences as well?
Furthermore you mentioned using Karma live, too. Both - Karma and the sequencer - require a tight timing. Does your drummer get a click? Or are these such prominent sequences everybody can hear them on stage?

And I agree: COOL stand for your Oasys! 8)

LG aus dem Ösi-Land!

Hey man,

regards to Austria! That's right- I use the SEQ-Mode because I need the sequencer for our live-playbacks (great word ;-) ). I bounced the original Studio tracks into stereo-split parts (L/R,16bit, 48kHz) and load them into the sequencer. Of course you only can use the sequencer in a live situation with a drummer-click! So I bouced an audio click track for every song. The playbacks a routed to audio outputs 1 and 2, the click track to audio out 3. The live keys are on the L/R outputs. So I need 5!! DI boxes.

In only one Song I use the Karma function. But it's only a simple rythm like an arp synchronized with the sequencers speed. I'm not a freak in programming Karma. That fuxxxxx thing is my most unused function.

In 2008 as I got my O I deactivated the Karma in Global Mode. Then I wondered why the hell I couldn't save the speeds (needed for BPM delays). If you deactivate Karma you can't save speeds in Combi or Prog Modus. One of my first seen bugs in the O.

There are few bugs I noticed in the last 2 years with the Oasys. But on stage it makes his job excellent without crackling, shut downs or holding notes.
You never have to restart your system live on stage if you a keep the most important rule:

Never make programmings on stage.

regards

LOL - never program on stage ...

Thanx for the insight. 8) I still feel reluctant about carrying my Oasys around or using it live. Since the cancel-bug was terminated it never failed me in the studio though ... but on stage ... phew, I guess I'm not bold enough for that.

Just the weight of the 88 puts me off ever taking it anywhere!

The weight of that beast is a real disadvantage for shure. On my last tours I didn't have to carry it by myself. That was the job of our backliner. But now the time has chanched and I have to "work" ;-) But I have found a good way to handle it.
The next big disadvantage is if you play an Oasys for a long time, create your big layered Sounds with all 12 iFX you will not be able to use something else. If you find an equivalent to the O it will be very difficult to get your Sounds recreated on another Instrument. It's not only the mass of inserts FX, polyphony or virtual instruments like AL-1,LAC or so on- it's the quality of the sound witch comes out of the outputs and that's the reason why I'm not searching for another instrument and fall in love in 2008 with my O.
And let the weight be like it is: If the Oasys stands in front of me during a gig I fall in love again, ..and again... :)

my 2 cents

Know exactly what you mean Dan... every time I play the O it's like a new love affair :)

Just please don't tell my wife

That is exactly the point. Whenever I enter a musicstore and play around with other synthesizers I end up with... I have got all I need. In 30 years I played a lot of different synths and thru the years I owned most of them. OASYS is now the first time I have the feeling that I got what I always was looking for....

hm  or it is just my age

I agree with you guys very much! Sometimes I play the OASYS on stage and it's a heavy beast. The O is roughly 30 kgs, the RoadReady flight case is another 30 kgs. Together it's a 60 kg package. :-) I transport it myself usually with somebody else. I'm not weak but it's definitely not for one guy - especially who wants to play music with his hands.

So, the trouble is that even if I have the dream workstation that meets all demands I end up with thinking about buying some other gear for live use that is easier and less risky to transport… But evidently sounds, feels, responds (and looks ) less good than OASYS. At the end this will alter my performance and the experience of the audience, too.

That was a nice way to describe it. I have a "less nice" one: Each time I give another synth a try in a shop it always feels like a "toy" to me. No matter what I lay my hands on: Roland, Yamaha, Korg ... they are all nice toys, but nothing I'd want to buy for my work as a musician. For me it's the mixture of the sonic quality and a huge piece of hardware, that makes the O a mighty O! 8)

PS: I'm not sure about the age-issue though.

Hi Peter,
It is not your age, I think it is the reality...

Since 2007 I bought 3 incredible things, the "O", a Studer A-820 (Open Reel machine) TC with Telefunken TELCOM C4 and about 1 week ago the Hammond XK-3C.

All other things dont interest me, may be it is my age too, may be...

Greetings

Hi Oliver,

nice to see you posting here @ KF again.

Congratulations on the Studer and Hammond. By the way, which recorder do you use for mastering? Did you ever try Korg's MR-2000S? And I am curious to know how close the XK-3C comes to a B3.

Liebe Grüße
Peter
