.sng files

Post by Old Guy »

Hello Forum,

I'm wondering if anyone knows of some software on the Internet (free if possible) that will allow sng files to be played on a computer (Windows).

I'm going to be doing a little travelling and thought rather than haul my TEX with me, if I could play the .sng files on my computer, I could use any old keyboard for the lead. I have a lot of backing tracks I use. I've made a lot of Program Changes so midi files really won't work.

I've been on the Internet checking things out but can't seem to find anything that works.

I would think there must be something out there in cyber space.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Even if a SNG could be played back, where would you get the sounds from?

Your best bet is to play back the songs on your TEX and record them on your computer in some audio file format, and play those back.

You may or may not be aware, but a .sng file is more or less just a MIDI file with the specific parameters for the TEX's sequencer.
When you 'record' using the sequencer, you are actually just recording the notes you play - not the resulting sound. This is MIDI data and you still need the TEX there for its patches to generate the sound.

What you want to do if you are making backing tracks is to resample the output to .WAV or to actually record the output from the TEX during song playback to get an audio file that you can play on your laptop.
