Need some answers regarding Roland D50 & Yamaha DX7 patc

Post by kasmot »

Hi to all fellow Korg users. I have some questions that needs to clarify.

Is it possible to import Yamaha DX7 & Roland D50 Patch to Korg x50/triton/tr?

If someone had tried to convert D50 & DX7 SYX file to PCG using Awave software then import to x50/triton/tr synth?

Hope to get some decent answers. Thanks!!!!

No. The DX7 and D50 have totally different synth engines.

That won't work either. The DX-7 and Roland D50 data would be completely incompatible with Korg.

In light of the following thread, I think kasmot is asking the wrong question.

Kasmot, you do not need DX7 or D50 programs/patchs to be imported to the X50. The X50 already has FM electric pianos samples that will probably do fine for the purposes described in that thread.

Here are the multisamples:

21 E.P.-FM 1
22 E.P.-FM 1 LP
23 E.P.-FM 2
24 E.P.-FM 3
25 E.P.-FM 3 LP

You need to learn how to use the multisamples to create your own programs. This is done by picking these multisamples for OSC1 & OSC2 High and Low in program mode. You can modify any existing electric piano program to use these multisamples instead of whatever it's currently using.

You probably could spend several weeks just learning how to create and modify programs to use the 400+ multisamples that the X50 has built-in. Multisamples are not the same as presets or programs. Multisamples are the basic building blocks that are used to create programs. They are the raw recordings in the ROM memory that are manipulated by the program to produce the sound it makes. There are many levels to understand about programming a synth as powerful as the X50. Multisamples -> Programming -> Programs -> Combis/Multis. Because multisamples are part of a program, you can't actually hear the raw recordings until you create a new (init) patch and then change the OSC1/OSC2 parameters to pick the different ones in Program mode.

Well, whether or not... it's important for everyone to know:

You cannot load sounds from other manufacturer's synths into your Korg synth(s).

Very true, in a literal sense, and certainly a valid point.

I load sounds from other manufacturer's synths onto Korg synths all the time, but I use the term "load" loosely to describe my process of converting and interpreting parameters between different engines, not to describe an automatic software process that can do that without human assistance to get the desired result. :)
