Complete loss of control surface?!

Post by jayS »

So I was just getting finished with an arrangement of a jazz piece, put about an hour into it when all of a sudden my entire control surface went dark. The met kept clicking, drum part on loop kept playing and the keybed was still functional... but everything else went dead! No lights, no buttons working, touch screen completely unresponsive. I was forced to reboot... an hour down the drain.

Has anyone had this happen before? Any idea what caused it or what could fix it? It shouldn't a loose fitting connection because the board wasn't rocking or anything...

I'm at a loss and quite unhappy. This is the second time that this has happened, but the first during a "recording" session.

Thanks for any help that any of you can provide. I'm going back to re-record now.

Not that this will help any but my OASYS runs flawlessly and I would consider myself a heavy user of every system. I'm only saying so because I highly doubt is a software issue.

If I were you guys I'd be throwing the keyboard into the back of the car and going to my dealer and asking their engineer there to check that a solid connection is being made in all the connections.

If you don't have one already too, buy a UPS. Your baby is too precious to connect directly into a power socket. A UPS will also eliminate any unusual behaviour caused by brownouts.

Regards
Sharp.

Thanks for the replies.

Sharp, I'm currently running through a monster power center 2500. I don't recall if the monster is running through my UPS or not, I guess I need to pull the desk out and check.

I don't have a dealer anywhere too close, but I guess it's worth the road trip.

Zolhof, sorry to hear that but I'm glad I'm not the only one. The reinstall may fix your reauthorization problem but I doubt it'll fix the hardware dropout.

I had some bad behaviour due to a corrupted OS. After a fresh install, it's fixed.

Hi César and jayS,

Sorry to hear these problems. First I would call the dealer/repair centre and ask for help or advice at least. Then I would try to reinstall the software. Also open the O and check all connections gently pressing them.

My O is working well so far. Frozen only once (2 years ago)! If you want a strange experience: when editing a Combi and assigning a Program to a Pad, after pressing that Pad the Program didn't stop sounding... I had to switch to another Combi to stop the sound. This also happened only once.

Another small bug that is constant: when copying Pad settings from a Song to a Combi the MIDI channels are not included - every Pad remains on Channel 1. Anyways, not a big problem at all.

The big problem is with the quality of tactile switches. You know I successfully replaced some and they are OK. Unfortunately now I started to experience the problem with other buttons (some of the numeric keys), it's very very slight now but I'm afraid will be worse...

Still nothing compares to this great keyboard! I love it, don't want to loose it, it sounds incredible and amazes and satisfies me every day! I hope Korg will resurrect this project some day (soon).

Akos,

You are spot on about the quality of those tactile switches. My experience with my T1 was to replace them all at one time. At least that is possible, as opposed to having to junk the synth. I'm sure it will happen to my O at some point too.
