My biggest problem with the MicroX

Post by powerofthekeys »

... is quite simply the manual. It's all very well when members kindly tell us that the answer to (pretty well) every problem can be found in the manual, but frankly, life's a bit too short to tussle with a user manual in one hand and a parameter guide in the other trying to work out which bit of information plugs in where. Am I the only one who, despite a pretty solid grounding in English, IT and Music, finds Korg's notion of 'user-friendly' pretty opaque? I've learned more from the forum than I have from anywhere else, so far. As a new user, I'm enchanted with the MicroX and its possibilities; but I'm building up a list of questions to post...

Too right - some of the things they've done in the presets are inexplicable i.e tune=-200 transpose = +2 ?!?

This is a function called pitch stretching... It doesn't change the pitch of the sound (C is still C, D is still D, etc...), but it affects the timbre making it more brighter or darker sounding...

I didn't know you could do this with the HI engine. I'll have to look into it further!

You learn something new every day.

Evidently though it is a 'hidden trick' that isn't mentioned in the manual.

Pitch Stretching on the MicroX

Post by dawkins »

I finally found an explaination in the Triton Parameter Guide Page 2
" Pitch Stretch (-12..12) This simultaneously adjusts the Transpose and Tune of the oscillator. This lets you produce a variety of tonal changes and varations.......an adjustment of +1 will lower the Transpose value by 1 and simultaneously raise the Tune value by 100"
So even though MicroX doesnt have the control we get the same effect by tweaking Tune/Transpose

cos it's a comon HI engine you probably have to read every Parameter Guide to fing these little tricks of the trade
