EXB-SCSI + CD-ROM Drive?

Post by wolferl3.1 »

I have seen the Triton Studio having a built in CD drive.

Can this thing burn or save file or only READ Memory?

If I install this option to my Classic, can I save file to the CD drive? Or back to saving it to the floppy drive.

The Triton Studio is unique...

The Studio can burn CDs of the audio output of your sequences as well as save standard data files like samples and sequences. The interface to the CDR drive in the Studio is built specially so that not only SCSI data but audio data also comes through the bus, which isn't normally the case with the SCSI bus. Only data normally comes through the SCSI bus, like sample data or sequencer data, not audio signals. So you cannot actually save your music, only the sequences and samples that make up your music. To save your music, you must take the audio outputs and run those into a recording device.

Even if you buy a SCSI CDR or CDRW drive and hook it to your Triton SCSI bus, you won't be able to burn CDs with any other Triton model because that functionality isn't built into the normal Triton operating system. If that feature is important to you, you'll have to buy a Studio.

which is more faster & advantageous, the CD-RW of the Studio or the CF card installed on Classic?

Depends on which kind of data

Post by scsiforsamplers »

If you are comparing apples to apples, that is SCSI data only (saving samples, sequences, etc), then the CF-CARD is better hands-down because of the speed. Burning files to CDR is always somewhat slow business, so you could save the same file many times over on the CF-CARD in the time it would take to burn it to a CDR.

Of course, the CDRW drive on the Studio can also burn audio CDs of your musical creations and that is something no SCSI drive will ever be able to do.

Do I need a EXB-SCSI to be able to have the CF card working?

btw, what does CF mean?

I don't mean to seem rude or unhelpful but clearly you haven't read the details page on the CF-CARD drive. There is lots of information there, so please read it and if you still have questions, I'll be most happy to answer them.

Here it is:

Sorry for that. To tell you the truth I haven't read it yet but today I will. lol

I'll just post here if I do have some questions regarding the CF card.

If Triton supports this CF card based on Paralled ATA/IDE or SCSI-IDE,

does it also support the latest CFast card that is based on the SATA bus which is far more fast and the cables are not that bulky and is hotswappable?

No, SCSI only and that is assuming you do have the EXB-SCSI installed.
