EMX-1 won't turn on!

Post by byeskyharbor »

I just joined this forum today because I thought, perhaps, someone would be able to help me out...

Last night, in the middle of sequencing a pattern on my EMX, the power just shut off...and will not come back on.

Would this be a fuse issue? Or could it maybe be a problem with the power cable?

Also, before this unwanted power-down happened, there were some minor hiccups going on. When turned on, for example, the EG Time control would go kind of crazy. Without touching the knob for this control, the EG time value screen would show up and begin scrolling randomly. This problem wouldn't stop until I physically set the EG time to zero; then the main pattern screen would re-appear and I would be able to scroll through patterns. Why would this have happened?

Any help is appreciated. Cheers!

when you blow the power fuse the machine turns on, the screen turns on too it just doesn't do anything.... so if your machine doesn't do anything at all I will assume it's power supply.

prob worth pointing out that ruso is referring to a surface mounted fuse on the circuit board in the electribe, not the fuse in the plug. But like he says if the screen doesnt turn on it will be the powersupply/plug fuse most likely.

All right, so the problem has been diagnosed. It was the power-supply that was faulty.

Thanks a ton for helping me figure this out. I don't know why that wasn't the first thing I checked. Ha. Does anybody know where I can get a new plug for the EMX-1? I took it to a local music store today and they told me that they didn't have anything that fit the EMX, with it's 4-pin AC/9V plug. They were able to order one, but it's going to cost me a bit more than I'd like to have to spend for a power supply. Any ideas where I could track down the plug used in the EMX?

The Sam Ash nearest me is charging $36.00 provided what was ordered is the appropriate adapter.

If it doesn't work they won't charge me for it.

that's actually not bad at all... sounds about right for a specialty part for an audio piece of gear. I might have to order one myself.
