I"ve uploaded two new songs on my myspace!
Billy Saga Part 2 - This song was created entirely with virtual instruments. All the guitars, bass and drums were pre programmed with midi however all the keyboard sounds (eg strings, brass, vibraphone, organ etc) were played by me.
Billy Saga Part 5 - This was in the days before I had virtual instruments, so its all on my keyboard.
Previously people on here have said although my songs are good, they don't flow well. My songwriting has matured since then and you should find here that the sections flow much better!

For the record, my name isn't Luke solo, Solo just indicates its my solo project.
Feedback is appreciated!

You're definately producing better and better stuff. I remember from some time ago (I became your friend then) Personally I like the second better, just mainly because I like that type of beat and tempo. I don't know if you heard my Boob Tube Of Doom song. That's the closest I got to real metal done entirely on the Triton Studio.

Those I did some time ago and I'm doing more electro alternative glam rock things now. I do find your songs very interesting and well thought thru. Nice on the ears too. You have a well-developed taste in music and that's very clear.

Ha...I am Jon Solo...but since that is not your name I guess we go unrelated except in music.
Flow is not an issue that I am hearing on these two songs. You have some good ideas for the genre in which you are writing. I get the sense of Queensryche and Dream Theater in listening to them.
One thing I will note is your mix. The Part 2 has a strong pronouncement of drums and bass. Because they are so in your face, you lose the chance of camouflaging that they are sampled. The guitar needs more presence and volume.
Are you able to adjust individual parts in your drum kit? If so, I recommend playing with the mix on the brass (cymbals and hh). If you have the opportunity to run the kit as if it were room mic-ed as well, that would be a strong way of getting the right effect for genre, as drummers usually mic each of their toms, kick and snare, but leave the room mics to pick up the cymbals (which also pick up the hits on the toms giving it a very realistic sound). A number of virtual instruments allow you to do this, such as Superior and BFD kits.
Also for this genre the bass needs a little more high end. I would not roll off the high end of my sample for this type of music.
Fun stuff though! I like the second song better too. It is amazing what we all can get from a keyboard these days!
