Recording vocals question

Post by Gluzee »

Whats up guys? I'm a newbie to the recording process and need some help.
I just transferred songs I recorded on my Triton LE 88 onto my computer. My next step is Id like to record vocals on top of these songs directly into the computer. I'm not a professional musician or anything and am just doing this as a hobby so I'm not looking for the best gear. Id prefer the most basic and affordable equipment/programs possible. Can anyone guide me in the right direction as to how Id go about recording vocals on top of my finished synth songs? Any help would be much appreciated. I went through the posts and couldnt find what I needed. I probably need you to dumb the process to me as much as possible. Thanks for reading!

There are several easy and inexpensive ways of doing this. If you have a sound card with a line in on your computer, then you are 1/3 there. You will need a small mixer (with a preamp) for the vocal input. That should run under $100. Download the free ASIO4ALL.com drivers and install. Once you connect the mixer to your sound card all you need is one of the many free multitrack recording software programs available online.

A simpler task would be to spend just under $200 and get a USB audio interface with a built in mic connector and additional inputs for MIDI and line signals. I have seen some nice and clean interfaces for under $100.

M-Audio makes a host of adapters which are all fantastic. If you get lost, feel free to PM me.
