Why does the Triton Extreme burn out !!!?!

Post by bluejay »

I know 2 persons who complain that their Triton Extremes have burn out and we all know that the Triton Extreme is not an old keyboard. I was thinking of buying one based on the specs advertisized- now I am reconsidering.

Define "burn out".
I don't know of any Extreme (or any other keyboard) that incinerated itself.
If you refer to damages caused by electrical spikes, every keyboard is vulnerable to that. Risk of getting your keyboard damaged with bad electricity can easily be avoided by using UPS or dedicated electricity stabilizer/converter.

I can remember eg. Ensoniq Fizmo series, because of design, were susceptible for overheating, thus many of them burned out. I didn't hear of such ailment of TEX neither. But they are just 4 years old nowadays, time will tell.

Yeah this really needs a better definition of burn-out to be honest. The only thing i have heard of burning out on TEX is the valve (ive seen 2 so far). Other than that, i don't really know what else can burn out in normal circumstances, unless there is a power-spike as Shrike said .

From my personal experience and listening to other users the Triton Extreme is solid workstation.

Any product from any manufacture can "burn out". However, I don't think you have any thing to worry about. A few isolated incidents doesn't represent the product line of a whole.

I have never had a problem with any of my Korg hardware going *POOF*. I know others have had problems with some units, but it was reserved to a small number of users which is not enough IMHO that it discredits the whole line.

If you're looking to pick up a Tri Ex now, there's probably other issues that would be of concern.

We have never had one 'burn out' at Korg UK service so I think to reconsider buying one because you heard that they might would be foolish.....

Please do not stop the rumour that Triton Extremes will burn out. I want owners to sell their perfectly good TrExs at a bargain price to me.

Perhaps I should spread the rumour that the real problem is that the EXB-MOSS board will blow up the Triton Extreme, so I'll be able to find those at a reasonable price too.

I know from people that buy from me that, some of their friends have had their extreme burn out after 4 month of normal Use.

I was afraid everytime that I used my extreme 76 that it could burn on me, However never, ever game me a single problem...Now...
I am glad I sold it to get The Big Oasys.
I think The Triton Extreme Motherboard wasn't that Good.
So be aware.

some of their friends have had their extreme burn out after 4 month of normal Use.
Define "normal use".

If one spends 2000 euros on workstation and connect it to city power grid, meaning electricity socket, that's not normal use.
City power grid is constantly oscillating and isn't good for fine electronic equipment.
The situation gets worse when one take it to a gig, connects amplifier, mixer, two keyboards, guitar amplifier, lightshow devices and other gear to one electricity socket, using 1-to-6 socket multiplier or such.

There is nothing wrong with Extreme's motherboards.

Users with no sense of care and no awareness of risk caused Extreme's to fry.

Buy UPS or dedicated electricity stabilizer/converter.
Connect your boards to such unit and they wont get spiked.

It really depends on How many tritons comes to your hands,
As me I am an ebay seller, with 100% positive feedback, and I also export them to Argentina, I can tell that the Extreme is a very stable keyboard, However when the Motherboard burns, it Burns !!

Believe it or Not, I can tell that the Triton Studio is a lot better when it comes to sound,It really sounds more clear, I have had the Chance to compare them both side by side.
If you any of you don't believe my words I can take a Photo of both keyboards when conected during a test.
The Extreme has more sounds, however the Studio sound is more clear.

It's all kind of a mute point, if you can't find one.
A new one, I mean.
If you can find a new one, get it.
Spring for a power conditioner, if you're that worried about burnout.

You can always settle for a used one from Ebay or elsewhere, but
it's always a crap shoot, if you can't get the history of the instrument.
Was it a demo?
Was it used much?
Was it ever repaired?
Those are the kind of questions you need to ask, if you're considering a used one.

So, your question shouldn't be about burnout, but rather more along the lines of
the questions above.

If you can get a nice use model, burnout shouldn't be a factor.
