Importing MIDI files into Triton Extreme Sequencer
Is there an easy way (hopefully) to import MIDI files/songs that were created on other sequencers/keyboards into the Triton Extreme sequencer so that they will playback properly or, at least, come close to it with a minimum amount of tweaking/programming? I have many MIDI sequences I have done in Logic Studio 8 and on a General Music WK4.
Do I need to set up some sort of a MIDI "template" sequence where I could import them into? I can't seem to find any specific info as to how to easily do this. I am trying to avoid having to record a whole bunch of sequences from scratch with the Triton sequencer. Although it appears to be a fairly powerful sequencer it is not nearly as powerful, quick or intuitive compared to Logic or the WK4.
TIME is also of the essence. I don't have the time to learn a whole new sequencer and/or start from scratch. I bought this Triton from the keyboard player I replaced because of the combinations he had created for the songs we do. That saved me a lot of programming time but I also have many songs in GM file format I would like to be able to use on this gig.
BTW, I am a newbie to this forum and have had the TE 6 weeks. I love the sounds and the split/layer/zoning capability is simply awesome. I play left hand bass with this as well and the TE is superb at letting me create custom combinations. It is in this area that the TE really shines IMO. I am very comfortable with programming combinations now but the sequencer is just limited IMO.
Anyway, if anyone else out there has had to do this I would greatly appreciate your help. It would save me many, many hours of work.
Thanks in advance,
Greg

If Triton doesn't play your midi files you made compatible with standard GM format, that's very strange, since Triton has standard GM banks with all variations.I also have many songs in GM file format I would like to be able to use on this gig.
How do they play improperly? Are tracks/instruments mixed up or something like that? Did you use standard track settings while creating those midis (drums on track 10 etc.)?
As you probably noticed so far, Triton has capability to export sequences to GM compatible files. Of course, this works the other way too, so if your midi files aren't completely GM compatible, try to make them that way in Logic or GMWK4 and then load them to Triton.
If your midi files weren't made to be fully GM compatible, then you'll have issues with tracks and instruments in tracks. It isn't such a big job to sort such files to sound properly, but it will require some time. Since you said time is of essence here, if nothing works your best option would be to use GMWK4 or Logic alongside Triton.
This is a bitch while changing platforms, file support between machines is always a gamble.
Perhaps I should have elaborated in the original post. I didn't mean to indicate that the Triton played them improperly. What I meant to say was that this has been my general experience when loading GM files created on one device and loading them into another. I have not yet imported a MIDI file into the Triton sequencer as I don't know how! That is what I need specific help with. Sorry about that.
In the Parameter GUIDE manual it says I can load GM MIDI files directly in Song Play mode. I just need help with the steps to load them in, please.
Thanks again in advance,
Greg

You can load them from those devices. Extreme works with almost any USB thumb drive, just insert it in USB A slot on the Extreme's back side, go to MEDIA mode (press MEDIA button), in the bottom left of the first screen in MEDIA mode you have one arrow where your storage devices are listed (Compact flash card if you have one already inserted and USB thumb drive). If it doesn't recognize USB thumb drive, press Tab "Media info" (right-most) and in the upper right dropping menu select "Scan USB device", that should make your USB thumb drive recognizable in storage device menu. Same goes for USB CD/RW or hard drive, but they can only be inserted to USB B slot so you would require adequate cable. There were issues reported for hard drives and CD/RW drives so I don't recommend them, cause USB thumb drives are so cheap and so big in storage capacity these days and almost every one works with Extreme.
So, load your midi files to USB stick, insert it to Extreme, follow the steps above and you should see those files in media mode. Press Tab "Load", choose file, go to upper right menu and select "Load selected", press S.PLAY button to go to SONG PLAY mode and play your file.

Thanks for the help Shike! I was able to get a midi file off the USB stick, although scanning the device didn't make it readable. I had to turn the power off and on again for the TE to "see" the USB stick.
However, the sounds that the TE loaded into the sequencer from the MIDI file don't match the original sounds. This is the next time consuming step I need to resolve. I am going to experiment some more but any help here would be greatly appreciated as well.

They don't match now exactly? Tracks that are supposed to play rhythm guitar are playing saxes or instruments are in their proper tracks but just sounding differently than original?the sounds that the TE loaded into the sequencer from the MIDI file don't match the original sounds
If your tracks are mixed up, meaning they don't even play the type of instrument they should, then you have to sort instruments in tracks properly. This is big problem and, as I described in first answer to your original question, has something to do with files originally not being created to fully support GM standard.
If proper sounds are in proper tracks but they sound slightly different then on machines they were made on, try GM variations on sounds. If you used some other sounds other then sounds in standard GM bank in creation of those midi files, Extreme can't guess which sounds you were using so you have to reset them manually.
I'm out of options here, you have to be more specific in describing your problems/issue in order to get specific answer.
That's probably what the problem is. The sounds originally used not being fully GM. Maybe what has happened is some of the sounds I used were not from the GM bank but in XG (extended banks) so they just don't match up. I guess I'll just have to fool around with this some more. At least I am on the right track now. If you can think of anything else I might have overlooked it would be appreciated. Thanks again, Shike.

You answered yourself. Extreme doesn't support XG.some of the sounds I used were not from the GM bank but in XG (extended banks) so they just don't match up
Well, since you know now what's the issue I suggest you load your files to machines they were created on (GMWK4 or into Logic), write down or make printscreen of sounds in tracks, load files in Extreme and sort sounds in tracks according to your notes. Since not all of the sound were made using XG library, all of your GM sounds will match and all you have to do is find similar sounds for tracks that were using XG sounds. For example, if track 9 in some file used XG guitar, find similar guitar in GM bank and assign in to that track. Once you get going with this, it shouldn't be consuming much time.
Or, to speed things up since you are already familiar with GMWK4 and Logic, do those changes from XG to GM sounds on those and after you make fully GM compatible files, use them on Extreme.
