I am looking into getting a synth program for recording.
Basically, I don't currently have a sound board at easy access and want something that can act as my keyboard would for my computer but runs on midi tracks instead of my fingers playing.
I know that Gigastudio is pretty popular but it seems a bit unwieldy and huge. I would like something that sounds good but is easier. If possible, to work as a VST instrument in Cubase. I am not a very big fan of Fruity Loops nor it's sounds. I need orchestras, strings, pianos, choirs etc.
Anyone have suggestions?

Hi!
I think that you should decide a budget, as there are lots to choose from.
As you need a complete set of sounds, you may give a look to SampleTank from IkMultimedia (http://www.ikmultimedia.com/Main.html?prod_TB-WS.php), to Kontakt from NativeInstruments, with its library (http://www.native-instruments.com/index.php?id=kontakt3) and to something from EastWest, like Colossus, or better Goliath (http://www.soundsonline.com/product.php ... tid=EW-176)
I'm sure there are more to choose from, but that should be a good starting point.
Regards
