Re: STS/User Banks

Think of it a different way...."Single Touch" enabled means that with a single touch on one of the Style buttons, the whole keyboard is reconfigured, the style tracks and also the keyboard (live play) tracks. With "Single Touch" enabled, the mechanism used to reconfigure the keyboard (live play) tracks is via the STS1 stored data. The display is then updated to read STS1 as well.

If "Single Touch" is disabled, then when you touch one of the the Style buttons, the style tracks change but the keyboard (live play) tracks remain as they were before. The display remains showing whatever it said before. It might read STS1, STS2, STS3 or STS4 whatever it said before you pressed the style button. It's perfectly logical that it would not change.

Also if "Single Touch" is flashing then whenever you change to style variation 2, the STS2 settings will modify the keyboard tracks. Variation 3 and 4 similarly will reprogram the keyboard tracks using STS3 and STS4. The display will change correspondingly.

So, if it is enabled, the "Single Touch" functionality uses stored data held in the style to reprogram the keyboard (live play) tracks.
blkbltstd wrote:Second, is there a way to upload styles into specific PAGES within a user bank? It seems when I uploaded some of the freeware on the korg website, I would override previous pages, but I would have mostly pages 3&4 empty in all the userbanks. Is there something like an "append" function so you can add to current info instead of overwriting it every time you upload?
There is a way to do this.
  • go to Media -> Load, then Open the .SET file.
    then Open the STYLES folder.
then Open the e.g. USER01.STY bank of styles.
then Load one of the styles inside it e.g. "Bluegrass"
you will be prompted for the destination loction
then specify e.g. FAVORITE03 as the destination bank
then specify one of the Blank locations in FAVORITE02
There is no Append function per se, but you can easily move individual styles around using the Media -> Save function followed by Media -> Erase. You can erase multiple contiguous styles if you use SHIFT select to select the files when you erase them.

Thanks for the "homework". I'll work a little more with the keyboard & I'm sure I will come up with more questions.

Thanks, again!

Write Current Style

Post by blkbltstd »

As I've been building my Songbook, I've saved the current song I'm working on in a user bank. Then as I change STS' & find the final combination that I want, I write the Performance into the User bank. The problem is, it requires me to re-type the song name every time. Isn't there a way to go to: "Write Current Style"-"Write Style Performance"? The problem I have there is, it doesn't allow me to change the favourite banks in the "Write Style Performance" box. The information in that box is similar to being "greyed out" in a typical software program and unchangeable. Is there I lock or something that I'm missing?

Both the "Write Style Perf." and "Write STS" commands save the style performance and STS settinmgs into the currently selected style. So if you don't want to modify factory style settings, then before you make any performance and STS changes, you need to copy the relevant style to a Favorite bank. You will need to unlock factory style changes (Global lock settings somewhere). Then from style play mode press the "record" button, and from the drop down page menu "Write Style". It will then allow you to specify one of the Favourite banks as the destination. Don't forget to select the style from Favourites before you make your style perf. and STS changes!

Thanks again. I'll give this a try a few times and see if it is easier. I love the results of this keyboard. I guess like everything else that's worthwhile though, "They say it don't come easy"!
