MIDI Latency?

Using Sonar 7 PE, TR 61 to control TTS-1, with a USB connection, I strike a note on the TR, and TTS-1 doesn't respond instantly, theres a very slight "latency" before the note sounds, making it impossible to play in time.
Anyone know what's going on, I'm still the worlds biggest Midiot!
