Too much decay

Post by hugh »

HELP. This is driving me crazy. Certain drums will not stop ringing. I've turned the decay down in global and also in performance and it will not stop, and I need the "HOLD" button on so the voice will die out gradually. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Are you sure it's the decay that is the problem ?

Maybe you need to look at the effects ?.
It's also been ages since I edited a drum kit but I believe there is an option in Global mode when editing a kit that also effects the Effects.

For example, the bass drum is always dryer than a snare.

Regards.
Sharp.

If you are making new drum kit, then I'm almost certain you have problem with too long (defaulted) times in AMP EG, which is causing your drums to sound endlessly.

Try PROGRAM mode, program that's using that particular drum kit - reduce times in AMP EG. More exactly, drums should have AMP EG in one straight up-to-down line, something like this: Attack Time:00, Start Level: 99, Decay Time: 60-70, Break Point: 00 and every other parameter in EG set to zero.

Other thing: in global mode, you have drum kit section where you can alter decay time for each drum sample in drum kit.

If you are making new drum kit, those two things allows you to make drums decay exactly as you want them too.

If you are experiencing this problem with preprogrammed drum kit/drum sound, global mode drum kit editing menu would be your starting point; I can hardly believe Korg programmers would allow such flaws in factory drum kits and programs using those kits.
