DVDs remarks

Post by amartinod »

First compliment for this great job. I wish I could use such DVDs when I bought the PA1X. Chris Whitehead and your friends, thank you.

The first day I watched all 3 DVD's, and I realised I was going the wrong way on some points : for instance I had overwritten original data factories using the Songbook ...

So I reinstalled everything : OS3.01 and Resources, and I spent a lot of time to-day recreating my songbook, selecting my sounds in user area instead of loading .set files with sounds I almost never use....

I suppose I will goback to these DVDs very often...

Now I have some remarks :

1- I am using a Mackbook and the DVD reader is very thin and I had problem with reading DVD 3 as it blocks sometimes when playing.
The reason is, I think, the piece of information paper stuck on the DVD that makes it too thick (I have no problem reading ordinary DVD).

2- I am missing some points I would like to be developped more :
- I wish all the Menus could have been explained : for instance , I would like to know more about the effects and the Sound section.

The Midi setup also interests me a lot, as I suppose I am not alone using an external sequencer and I am not sure I am setting the midi parameters properly when I want to play the sounds of my second keyboard...
My PA1X has some strange behavior sometimes in that case....

But may-be there are some Advanced DVDs that are planed., and I would be very interested in it...

So again compliment for your great work, wishing I could be one day an "Advanced user"....

A. Martinod / France

PS : Where can we get the : BX3 velo switch sound ????

Hi Alphonse,

Thank you very much for your kind comments and the review.

Unfortunately the market for these DVD's is very small (probably a total of only 150 sets) and so we had to keep the cost of production down. This meant using sticky laser-printed labels on each DVD, rather than having the DVD's screen printed which is only economic if you are producing over 1000 DVD's of one type.

If you are concerned about the sticky labels then you could carefully peel them off and use Isopropyl alcohol (tape head cleaner) to remove the adhesive. Or you can return them to us and we'll happily send you a replacement set with no labels - that you can write on with a DVD marker pen yourself.

Again, because the market is small, we could only afford the up front outlay for one day's recording time in Chris's studio. However once all the money comes in from the first set of DVD's we will put any surplus funds towards the cost of another day's recording session and hopefully produce one or more supplementary DVD's.

So your comments on the things you would like explained in more detail are most welcome, as will be comments from any members of the forum on what you would like to be included on the next DVD.

We will obviously have to prioritise and see what we can do. We will try to keep the cost down to £10 per DVD, but we are struggling to balance the books. And we don't pay ourselves anything for the many hundreds of hours effort it takes to edit and produce the final footage, plus replicating and labelling disks and handling orders etc. Hence, we will need more people from the forum to volunteer some time to help in future. For example by printing DVD covers and labels on your laser printer; printing out address labels for delivery.

Anyway, thanks again for your nice comments, it is things like this that make it all worthwhile!

Best regards,
Rob

Thank you Rob,

Do not worry for the DVD 3 and the label problem, after several trials I could watch it completly, when it blocks I just eject it and replays it and the MacBook finally reads it.

I understand your cost production problem and I regret that the market for this kind of tool is small. If I compare the time I spent reading the manual and all I learned in just a few hours watching the DVD, there is no comparison in the way to learn how to use the Korg PA series.

So do not forget if you procuce more DVD of that kind , I am a buyer....

What about the B3 Velo switch sound ??? where can I find it ?

Best regards and Merry Christmass to the DVDs team,

Al,

Hi Al,

Thanks for your reply, glad to hear the DVD's are coming in useful.

Re B3 Velocity Organ - On the touch panel highlight the track you want to change. Press Sound Select (not Performance), then Organs, it's on P1 and the second entry called "BX3 Velocity" or something like that!

Best regards,
Rob
