Is it possible to recreate this wonderful instrument with a Triton Extremes' internal programs?

With internals no, but you have one steinway here:
http://www.dedicatedtotriton.net/downloads.htm
It's pretty good, actually.
It's multisample and pcg. data.
You have to load it all, but if you already have something in bank E (where it is loaded by default), then load ksc. data first, then load programs (pcg) one by one in desired bank and slot. Then open those programs and than in Program editing select those steinway multisamples - multisample "Stwy G 1" to OSC1 Multisample and multisample "Stwy G 2" to OSC2 Multisample. After that write it in internal memory and save it to CF.
If you have some previous samples/multisamples, than append these two to existing ones.

Steinway Piano

Alright I downloaded the zip file. When I opened this up on my computer, I'm not sure what it is that I'm looking for. There are several folders that contain what appear to be pcg. files. I have yet to see the ksc. files that I should download. I really need a step by step run through on how to accomplish this.

It is very simple.
Just unzip the folder.
Copy it to usb drive.
Plugin USB drive to EX.
Browse and open the folder.
Load .KSC file there (this will automatically load all the other files in the folder).
Then Load the Pcg file.

You are done.

Monte, smstome told you the basics.
If you still don't manage to load it properly, I'll send you step by step instructions, just before I do it, I need few informations - did you have some multisamples in RAM already (do you have some previous sampled sounds) and do you have something stored in E bank already?
Because if you did, this instructions that smstome gave you will cause your data in RAM and in bank E to be overwritten with steinway.

Samples will.
Pa1x samples to ksf. too.
Pcg.s aren't the same, though.

That's because Triton and Pa1x doesn't share the same sound engine.
So you can use samples/multisamples (there are two multisamples of that steinway, two different velocities of the same sound) and assign them to program in Pa1x. I don't know if it's possible to assign both multisamples in Pa1x's sound engine, didn't actually work on Pa1x.
But if you can't, use any preset piano sound, assign just first multisample (that's Stwy G 1) and save, it should work.

Yes I do have some samples in RAM. Yes I do have some previously sampled sounds. And yes I do have something stored in E-bank. When I pull up Media, I have CF card with 2G of memmory that has samples, pcgs, and kscs. stored, and I also have a memmory stick with 2G of memmory on which I have stored lots of pcg and ksc programs from Korg forums and Korg website. I'm not sure of anything else about the process of saving and loading pcgs and ksc files. I played around with some wav files that I used on Srgt. Peppers/With A Little Help From My Friends, you know, the sound FX of the croud and cheering in various parts of the song. I made a MS and saved that to what I thought was a ksc file but when I do a load like smstome suggested it still does not seem to work properly. I even programmed the four seperate FXs to work seperately on only 4 keys so I could start them when I wanted in the song when it is performed live.

OK, let's go with the basics about your data on media:
1. file with extension .PCG is data that contains your programs (sounds), combinations and global settings.
2. file with extension .KSC is sample data that contains informations about multisamples (multisamples are files with extension .KMP) and samples (files with extension .KSF).
3. file with extension .SNG contains data made in sequencer, meaning songs, patterns etc.
Let's forget about .SNG for now and concentrate on samples and programs.
Usually there are files available to download that contains three things:
.pcg file, .ksc file and one folder named the same as ksc. file. That's because .ksc is just an index of multisamples and samples contained in that particular folder.
So if you see those three things, you know that you downloaded sound that is made from samples, that those samples create multisample (or multisamples) and that multisample is assigned to program.
For example, Steinway:
You downloaded zipped file, unzipped it and you had three things:
1. STWAKAI.PCG,
2. STWAKAI.KSC and
3. folder named STWAKAI.
This folder contains two files, STWY_000.KMP and STWY_001.KMP and two folders, STWY_000 and STWY_001.
Those files STWY_000.KMP and STWY_001.KMP are multisamples, and in those folders STWY_000 and STWY_001 are samples.
So, to avoid loading each sample and multisample one by one, Korg made our lives easier and formed index file to remember and arrange those samples and multisamples - that file is .KSC.
So you'll copy whole steinway folder on media, open it in triton, than load just KSC. file - assuming you previously played your already loaded sounds with already loaded samples, you'll select .KSC file, go to load, press "load selected" and in lower part of the screen you'll see option "Select .KCS Allocation" with two dots, append and clear. Clear is selected by default. If you press OK, steinway samples will be overwritten to samples previously loaded in triton. That's not what you want. So you'll choose option "append" - that will load steinway samples and multisamples next to existing ones (if you had some samples from 0000 to 0100 and multisamples from 000 to 010, steinway multisamples will be loaded to multisample slot 11 and 12, and samples will be loaded to sample slot 101, 102, 103 etc. This is just example.)
That's all about samples and multisamples.
Now actual sound.
If you load STWAKAI.PCG it will be loaded to bank E, from 000 to 004, there are five sounds in that file.
You don't want to load in E bank in that slots because you already have something saved in there, so you'll load somewhere else:
on media, press STWAKAI.PCG then press OPEN - you'll see folders "programs", "combinations", "drum kits", "arpeggio pattern" and "global setting".
Press "Programs" and OPEN, now there are all the banks or just bank E. Open bank E and there are all five sounds avaliable to download one by one.
Choose the first sound, go to load, load selected, and than triton will ask you where to load that sound. Load it somewhere where you didn't create any data, for example to N100 (bank N is partially full by default settings).
Now, if you try to play that sound (named Stein 1) you won't hear anything. That's because multisamples aren't assigned to program just yet.
While in program, go to MENU (button MENU, not some other menu), than select P1: Edit-Basic, then middle tab on the bottom of the screen named OSC basic. Now, in OSC1 Multisample, choose RAM and by pressing arrow below this "RAM" you'll be able to browse through multisamples loaded in RAM.
If you did everything like I described, you should have Stwy G 1 and Stwy G 2 multisamples one after another.
Choose Stwy G 1.
Then go to OSC2 Multisample, repeat the procedure, but select Stwy G 2.
Now you have to save those settings - go to upper right dropping tab and choose "Write program" confirm it and now you have completed program.
Do the same with other four programs, because they won't play anything until you assign multisamples to them.
When you have done that, go to media and save all.
Now you'll have pcg. file with all your previous sounds plus steinway sounds, ksc. file with all your previous samples plus steinway samples, and sng. file with song data.

When exploring new sounds, save everything you need, go to media and load everything from a new folder with a new sound. When you are done trying the sound and if you are happy about it, write down which multisamples does the sound use (if any), load your sounds, go to media, follow described procedure to append multisamples, to load programs (sounds) and not to overwrite existing ones and to assign multisamples to programs.
Many downloaded sounds are just pcg. data, meaning programs that use Extremes preset multisamples. Then just load program one by one to desired banks and slots.

Regards,
Shrike.

(every similarity with usual Sharps "Regards, Sharp" is fully unintentional). :D

Steinway Piano

Post by stultzsweeties »

Same thing happenned however I went to properties and selected only the files that had stuff in them. So now I've got my own folder named Steinway with KSF samples in 2 folders, STWY_000 and STWY_001, STWAKAI PCG. file, STWAKAI.KSC file, STWY_000.KMP, and STWY_001.KMP file. I followed your step by step and I've got a steinway sound. It sounds OK, but it seems to be missing something. Do I have to load effects and master effects for each sound or did I miss loading a certain file or files since I had to make my own folder. Also will this program stay in memory or do I have to do something to the samples or certain files and load them every time I do a live performance using this program?

If you wrote programs in internal memory, they will stay there so you don't have to load program settings.
But you have to load multisamples that you use each time you turn the Triton on, they can be saved to media and are loaded to RAM in Triton, but they don't stay in RAM after you turn Triton off.
It sounds OK, but it seems to be missing something.
Well, I really can't tell what could you be missing.
did I miss loading a certain file or files since I had to make my own folder.
I can't understand what's this about. What folder, what files? Simple download, unzip, load... There isn't much to it, basic copy/paste operations.
If it plays, then you probably did it good.

My sound, that particular one, steinway piano Stein 1, sounds very good, and all I did is add some more power in lower frequencies and divert sound through vacuum tube.

(Sharp, thank you for locking other topics with same subject, I really want to help this guy, but it's hard to write here and there).

Good luck to you too, Monte, I hope you are not offended by anything I might wrote.
Keep on trying and you'll manage to learn everything in your Extreme with the time.
If you have something to ask and you think it's going to be big, contact me and we'll try establishing some live communication (via Skype or something) so I can tell you directly.
Regards.
