How does one go about getting the format specs from Korg? (ie for styles, song book, programs, samples.. etc), do they release them at all for this kind of purpose?

I have quite a few friends who are programmers and am sure they would relish such a project. Hell... I will learn to program, if it means easy editting... heheh

I asked Mr. Trammanoni to help me understand the file format of PA1X. I can develop a tool with features that follows:

• Explore PA1 set file.
• Edit locations of sounds, styles and performances(drag-drop).
• Import samples and muti-samples from another set.
• Load sounds, styles and performances from another set.
• Edit the song book.
• Provide user friendly interface and simulate PA1X screens.
• Use C# and Visual Studio 2005 for development.

I even did not get a reply from him.

emperor, if you visit the website of rick escercito (Ric Freak) http://www.oggi.it/ricfreakprog/ he is giving his source code for PRM/XRM to developers for doing such a thing, maybe there is something you could do with it to expand its functions..( it is a great bit of software, but because Korg won't/ can't give him any of the info you are seeking, it is limited in what it can do with the PA1x....

Yes I can make it PA80 compatible too since the file structure is the same.
It is not a silly joke, understanding structure of a text file is not difficult, it is only long and tedious process.
Secondly, revealing this information will not affect any body in a bad way, it is all about how files are organized, not the technology.

I already understood the structure of style files of the PA, it took me nights of hard work. I built a simple browser to explore a style file and I can go more further and provide other features.

I also get useful information form a product called XRM, Unfortunately it was build by obsolete technology








For sounds and performances I can do the same, but as I said, it is hard and there is no grantee that it is accurate 100%.
For this reason I asked help from Korg's guy.

unfortunately I "AM" a programmer... only the worst kind... a mainframe COBOL programmer..!!!!

I have spoke to a friend already and he seems interested in helping me develop something..

I have seen this software before and I absolutely agree.

I am not slating it in any way,shape or form because I appreciate the time and effort that must have gone it to it.. but it is all too easy to get caught up in the functionality of it, and not think about the User-friendliness of it... definately could do with an interface facelift

I have tried PRM and Kat but in the end gave up and tried to do it on the synth instead... hmmm... then gave up with that too.. and made do.
It shouldn't have to be this complicated.. (and I consider myself a bit of a tecky)

why upset? what was discouraging? my comment about cobol was tongue in cheek... it pays my bills so I shouldn't complain... hehehehe
