I have a SP-250 which I love, and I've tried the 280. In my opinion, the 280 feels mushy and the 250 feels snappy and quick.

I much prefer the 250.

I ended up finding a like-new MX49 on Craigslist for $375. Pretty great deal. Thanks for the info everyone!
