If your unit is in warranty i would demand a replacement.

FWIW, i believe the new kronos is only cheaper because the price has to go up on the old kronos now that theres a limited supply. For example, the newest and most affordable iPad is $500. I do this with my king korg. Very good idea since the king has a very limited FX section... plus the kronos O-Verb is just so...
