R3 Sound Editor not working...

Post by Cassata »

Hi all.

I tried searching the forums and the intertubes for this, and all the questions and answers were Windows specific.

I have my R3 hooked up to my Mac (Leopard 10.5.4) via USB. It's being recognized as a MIDI device and works fine as such in Live 7 for instance. When I try using the transmit/receive functions in the Sound Editor I always get the message "Transmit Program failed : MIDI device is not specified."

In the preferences I have the MIDI IN set to R3 - MIDI IN and MIDI OUT set to R3 - MIDI OUT. Being a complete n00b this could be wrong, but it seems pretty straightforward. I HAVE tried every combination of options in those two menus.

I've tried changing USB ports, making sure sysex is enabled on the R3, made sure that routing is set to USB/MIDI and also tried setting it to USB only, reinstalled the drivers from korg.com, restarted the computer etc etc...

Any advice?

I'm really hoping for a "you forgot to press button x" answer :)

Not sure about the R3, i'm assuming it is the same as RADIAS here but, settings should be as follows (quoted as 'radias' because I can not entirely state specifically for the R3)

MIDI In Should be set to 'RADIAS KBD/Knob' NOT 'RADIAS MIDI In'
MIDI Out Should be set to 'RADIAS Sound' NOT 'RADIAS MIDI Out'

'RADIAS MIDI In' and 'RADIAS MIDI Out' allow you to interface other gear, turning your device into a USB MIDI interface. basically refering to the port on the back rather than talking to the RADIAS itself.

this is what I know, but you will have to check if this applies to Mac or to the R3.

Correct !

"R3 KBD/Knob" for MIDI IN
"R3 Sound" for MIDI OUT

Hey guys sorry to bump an old thread.

I did this, and while receiving all programs from the R3 works, writing them back on always gives me an error.

Any suggestions?

You need to disable the write protect setting, which is enabled by default.

See page 78 of the Owner's Manual.

FYI, I just discovered that you also have to set MIDIFilt (P-43) such that SystemEx messages are enabled.

Hope this helps.
