Problem with combi mode

Post by drrodrigues001 »

Hi,

Wondering if someone can help me out with this one...

I've created my own split/layered Combis on my Oasys 88...been using these during gigs..over the last few days, if I leave the Oasys idle for about 10 minutes, some of the combis become "detuned" ... The simpler ones drop by 2-3semitones; the more complex ones will do the same, but with only some of the patches in the combi...

I've looked through the parameters and there's no changes in the transpose settings either within the combis or in the global settings...

The only way things go back to normal is if I shut off and restart...quite a pain when you're in between segments in a gig ... The keyboard is usually at my house and gets moved around very occasionally...and it's transported in a flight case with lots of padding..

I'm a little lost regarding what to do to rectify this...could anybody help me with this please?

Thanks

Not sure if this could be your problem but I had a similar issue with my Oasys from time to time,it would detune for no reason randomly....not all the time just now and then, and I used to do what you did and reboot and all seemed to be fine for a while.

I have always used an external Sequencer for recording(mpc4000) with the Oasys as a master keyboard/sounds,The external sequencer has a midi data monitor Which shows incoming midi events, and the Oasys seemed to be kicking out activity into the Sequencer by itself now and then when not being used,so I hit record on the sequencer and opened up the editor to find loads of Pitchbend values.

The problem seemed to be the Joystick on the Oasys, for whatever reason after using it,it obviously wasn't resetting back to neutral after use, even though it was springing back to centre physically.

When I noticed sounds seemed to be detuned I just gave the joystick a wiggle to reset it and it was ok and it stopped sending out the midi data whilst idle, this obviously was the cause of my random detuning as the sounds were back in tune after resetting the Joystick.

Thank you for that...I'll try that out when I get home tomorrow and let you know how I get on...just wondering if it could be due to dust under the joystick ...

It worked...for a while...noticed now that the joystick doesn't always respond correctly when being moved...if I shift it up (+Y) with a guitar patch it doesn't always give the vibrato effect, and shifting down actually drops it by 2 semitones. Also shifting along X axis doesn't always give the pitchbend up or down every time...time for a new pitchbend or is there an alternative??

It may just be a loose wire to the joystick. I'd check that out first before laying out for a complete joystick assembly.

We have been having this same discussion at Karma-Lab forums. Yes, you likely need to repair or replace the pitchbend.
