Phase cancellation on preset patches

Post by raghav612 »

Hi all ,
I own a Korg M50 and recently discovered that there is severe phase cancellation occurring on all the preset tones and combi's that come with the keyboard. Any idea why this is happening and also what can i do to resolve this issue?
Thanks

When i use a phase correlation meter plug-in and monitor the tracks i ve recorded, I can see that there s almost complete phase cancellation.
I also notice that most of stereo preset s on the M50 have this issue and can't really figure out how to fix this.

"Almost complete phase cancellation" seems impossible, you would hardly get any sound at all out of your M50 in mono. If that is the case, something is wrong with it but it seems unlikely. There is usually SOME phase cancellation in any stereo sound, which is not an issue unless you collapse it to mono. What are you trying to do exactly and why is phase cancellation getting in your way?

Yea sorry , "Almost complete phase cancellation" was a wrong way to put it. What i wanted to say was that the phase cancellation is quite significant.
The problem is that the mixing engineer feels that he may not be able to get a good mix of the song as the keyboards sort off drown in the mix.

Well then maybe he shouldn't sum the keyboards to mono, or if he wants them in mono, take only the left or right channel. He could also try inverting the phase of one of the channels. This really isn't so much a problem with the M50 itself as it is common knowledge on how to mix modern keyboard sounds.
