I tried a Yamaha a2000, with exact same set as my korg pa3x pro set. Named "EMO USB"
I talked with one of the style creators of this "emo usb" set, the creator that goes under the nick name "NKx", he told me the same as I assumed; that the yamaha sound card is mutch better. EMO and NKx have made sets for KORG in several years. But now have also a license with yamaha for making sounds. And their set for yamaha is like another world compared to the same set on korg pa.
Our conclusion is that:
The sound card in Yamaha is better then Korgs PA.
THe pa1x had a good soundcard he said. But Yamaha is the leader in this.
I hope for the next PA serie, that KORG put their MAIN focus on the soundcard and outputs. This is very important. I dont even use the MAXXX audio or what it is called, because it plays with the frequences in my mixing, so that is not a recommendation to use. Maybe at home but not for live use.
Just wanted to throw of this mind thinking.

Sorry , but I totally disagree as an skilled DAC devices designer / sound engineer and not as an ordinary user based on my ears !
The only way to compare DAC circuity of those arrangers , is to feed directly digital output of both to a high-end external DAC
(like I did with apogee) and compare in spectrum analyzer the actual analog outputs of every arranger to see "matching" !
I've done it last year with T5 & Pa3X and only Pa3X was exactly to original sound response of Apogee DAC !
A "weak" sound can sound better at a weak DAC under some circumstances , so this is not a rule !
So FYI after all that came to my Lab , the best DAC you can find in a flagship keyboard today are in order :
-Pa3X
-Motif
-Kronos
-Oasys
-Pa600/900/Le
-Tyros
-Roland
-Older PaSeries
BTW : DAC = Digital to Analog Converter , let's say the heart of any digital audio equipment that decodes the analog sound.

Ok, that is very "flashy". and good on paper. But have YOU ever compared the exact same set? on a yamaha and korg pa3x?

A laboratory with advanced gear and the usage of pink/white noise samples plus high rated sampled cymbals that contain
gold nuggets for reproduction of complicated high frequency waveforms as the prior test , sounds to you like a piece of paper ,
or this is all you can get from this ?
I owned and still own the most of mentioned keyboards , so when I import my samples (See Kronos development) in above
sampler keyboards the rating is exactly as I already mentioned !

That's much easier said than done for most people. But have YOU ever compared the exact same set? on a yamaha and korg pa3x
A Yamaha AWM 2 sound engine is very basic in comparison to the complexity of a KORG EDS sound engine. It's simply easier to get the sound in one end and out the other of a Yamaha cleaner if you have limited knowledge as to what all the functions a Pa3X EDS sound engine has to offer.

Sharp

First of although they share the same name, (EMO Usb) dont expect them to sound the same. They are actually in a sense 2 separate SETs.
A sound is sampled and created differently in a pa3x and different in a tyros with different FX routings etc... İt depends on how much effort is put on recreating both sounds to sound the same.

If some of our fellow forum members would watch some of the documentary TV programs on sight and sound and the human brain they would have a healthy respect for the technical measurements. After a musician purchases something, they need to find notions that lend credibility to that purchase. What purchases or instrument modifications actually yield can only be reliably assessed by a skilled sound engineer , IMO. Feel good. Don't expect to be given credence without peer-reviewed data. There are so many psychological, emotional, ambience and equipment variables that contribute to the final sound that need to be considered first. Discussions on this forum about amplification equipment demonstrate that full-auditory-sound-spectrum reproduction can vary with many factors.
