New Krome: How do i put say a reverb on init combi

Post by Gnashetta »

Hi,

I'm struggling to put a reverb on my init combi that I'm making. Can someone please tell me how - say channel 1 piano and I can take it from there.

I've checked the manual but I'm totally confused:-(

Thanks

Hi,

1. Open page P9 MFX/TFX/LFO
2. Set the MFX 1 to on. (For init combi is off by default).
Choose the Reverb for MFX1. (default is No Effect).
3. Increase the Return 1 value to 100. (Is a button image on the display little bit on right).
4. Open page P8 Routing/IFX.
Increase the SEND 1 (MFX1) value for each timbre where you need to have the Reverb.

Let me know if you did it.

Dan,
Have you considered writing a "user-friendly" manual for the Krome?
Korg does a nice job, but you are a step above them in simplifying solutions for our problems.

Thanks for your time and assistance.

Dan is correct for adding reverb overall - MFX will add reverb to all channels, with the amount added being selectable using the post-IFX routing he described.

It may indeed be the "best practice" way to add reverb since you probably want to keep all instruments within the same virtual space and thus within the same (master) reverb.

However, to add reverb (or any effect) to a single instrument within an initialized combi you want to go to the IFX (insert effects) page. This is where individual instruments or small groups of instruments can have effects added just to themselves - example, you may need distortion on a guitar, or rotary speaker on an organ, etc., and not want either on a string patch that is part of the combination.

Set up the effect in one of the available slots, then route the instrument to that effect (you'll see a solid bar connecting the channel to the effect) and dial in the desired parameters by opening the effect.

------------

The same effects can be used by multiple instruments.

Effects can be connected or "chained" together (ala a guitar pedal board).

Instruments can have NO effects, Master Effects ONLY, one Insert Effect (+ MFX or Not), or multiple (chained) Insert Effects (+ MFX or Not).

If you've set up a chain, you can INSERT any instrument at any point in the chain, not just the first. Using a chain for multiple instruments lets you save open slots for others. Order matters: by missing the distortion effect (eg. first IFX in a chain) the latter parts of a guitar chain may be suitable for drums; you can route instruments to insert into the second or third effect in a chain. Note: once you're in, you're in - all instruments in a chain will exit to the next output stage in the same way and cannot be separated.

In taking instruments from Program to Combi mode you'll need to reconstruct and connect IFX for each instrument as it gets added so you need to think about the "signature" effects of each instrument... again, distortion and leslie spring to mind since those are essential to guitar and organ respectively and will not automatically be there when those instruments are added.
