Summer Namm 2014

Post by Synthesizerplayer »

Hi All

So Summer Namm 2014 is coming up soon. Korg must be having something up their sleeves, Kronos Z perhaps? Have been reading that Kronos X 88 has been running out of stock.

Hope something new and good comes out of Yamaha, been a long time really.

Not too sure about Roland as it may be too soon since the last AIRA launch. How about an Integra 8 with sampling capabilities?

A new synth from Casio perhaps?

Lots of possibilities are there :D

Regards

Possibilities yes for sure, probabilities not quite as predictable. Summer Namm usually not as proficient in introducing new product to the masses.

I really don't think there will be a new Kronos replacement. I wouldn't be surprised at some changes to it though, software, packs something. Then again I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't anything for it.

I imagine the arp will be built up heavily, and I hope they have a working pro to there! Lots of videos please!

I don't think they want to discontinue something that is flying off the shelf at 3000.00 and up a piece. Maybe a new OS version in the near future...then you never know now-a-days with these keyboard companies. They will go a totally new direction at a drop of a dime.

Tilt screen on the Kronos would be nice.

It would be nice is more of these high end keyboards had a video out port.
M3, Radias R, Kurzweil PC3LE, EMU Proteus 1000, EMU Proteus 2000 (three of 'em) EMU Proteus 2500, , Alesis QS6, Alesis QS7.1 (2 of them, 'cause I use them as midi controllers and I prefer their keyboard action), MPK 61, love the buttons / sliders etc but not liking the action. Wavestation A/D. Core i7 PC, 32 GB ram, 500 GB SSD, Presonus Studio One 2 Pro, VST's Pianoteq, Alchemy

Yup, this would be a game changer for sure.

The Kronos is getting old. Its time for the next generation. I don't see it happening at Summer Namm but maybe next Winter.

Korg still needs to finish the ARP. That will be summer Namm.

I wouldn't say the Kronos is old. Sure it's been out a few years but it is so deep I don't think anything is even close to it in capabilities. As always I hope to see it around for many more years and any changes or advancements should be with upgrades to hardware and OS etc.. IMHO

I don't think they need to. Roland and Yamaha are not competing with the Kronos now. In fact, they haven't come out with anything workstation wise that is new since before the Oasys. Why should Korg do anything new? Workstations may be a thing of the past as we know them now. There does not seem to be enough demand in today's market.

Really? A tilt screen changes the entire synthesis game and marketplace? That's all it takes?

...Minimoogs are old, too, as are Hammond organs, saxophones, pianos, and Stradivarius violins, and they're all still prettly good for making music...

...particularly since the KRONOS' Intel motherboard already has a video out port on it...but there's no external connector, and there would probably be lots of software work needed to make it usable...sigh...

It sure would...especially the video out port. These features will attract the studio Kronos users more so that live users.

You can't compare a well crafted acoustic or analog instrument to an Intel processor running a bunch of software. Love my old Hammond by the way. No software can reproduce the real thing. Love my aging M3 too.

But I still think its time for a major upgrade. They can call it what they want. It will still be a Kronos / OASYS inside anyway and that's a good thing. The Korg workstations have a great architecture. Just add some more new features and engines.

It's "old" but still not much touches it. If Korg did an OS upgrade of the biggest requests from the wish list and the right sound packs it'd be a slam dunk all over again. I say there's a LOT of life left in that hardware. Largely untapped IMO. The Kronos could easily be Korg's K2xxx series. Those of us that own hope it does!

I agree not much competing with the Kronos hardware wise, though I disagree workstations are a "thing of the past". At least for live work. I still have yet to see a TRULY compelling live app/setup that doesn't require MASSIVE amounts of tweaking and configuration to be usable in the real world.

For studio? The "Workstations" are becoming limited by comparison except for some novelty and classic sounds, and often that's emulated quite well now.

That said as long as there are gigging musicians that have strict requirements for reliability and immediacy of sounds/interaction, hardware will live on for the foreseeable future IMO.
