Creating a sample with multiple .wav files

Post by BillyB »

I can't figure out how to take 4-5 .wav files and create the ability to have 3-4 of those files only sound on one key each while the last one would sound on 1 maybe 2 octaves. I have tried setting the range as I add the sounds but have been unsuccessful. If I create 4-5 separate ones and save them a separate program files and then create a combi, will I be able to manipulate them using the zones in combi mode to get the results I want? I am trying to create a set up for the Bruno Mars song locked out of heaven where I can hit one key for the "yeah, yeah,yeah...." Another key for the "ooh". Another key would sound the siren-like sound at the end of the verses and then thesynth sound that seem to slide up a step or so that is through the song and is played in different notes during the chorus. I have never done any sampling on my M3 so am pretty naive on that process. Any assistance would be way cool! Thanks!

I think you are on the right track. Based on my understanding of what you are trying to do setting up a program for each sound and layering them in a combi using key zones seems like the way to go.

I am close...I seem to be able to add the wav files each to tehir own Multisample file and keeping each sampe to a specific sample number each time, but I always end up with one the does not seem to be in teh right place and so all my programs then make the same sound instaed of 4 programs and 4 different sounds

When you get things setup the way you want do a Save All. Then reload all each time instead of each individual sample.

I think I finally got it. It is not very intuitive how to ensure you have aligned each .wav file into/onto a specific multisample file and then get them saved to a program, save the multisample and then reload it so all the newly created programs sound with the correct sound...finally got it though, or at least close enough to make it work. Subsequently have created a Combi where all the sounds are arranged across the keyboard acceptably for me to move on with playing the song!

You could make one multisample containing all wavs. That's why it's called a multisample. Make sure you load all wavs. In sampling mode, start with a new multisample, then add regions as needed and assign your samples. If you have stereo files, do the left side only and the right side multisample will be automatically created to match. Choose "create program from multisample" for a quick way to start your program. Remember to save the program, and don't forget to do a save sampling data + pcg to disk.

It's not required to save PCG data along with saving the samples, it just keeps everything organized together as one set of data. Since PCG data is saved in the M3 when you power off you dont have to keep reloading it along with your samples.

Some programs and combi's won't work properly until the proper sample bank is loaded. Just keep notes on what sample banks are required for your programs and combi's.
