custom combis

Post by richie1027 »

Hi all...been a while since i checked in.

I googled this and found nothing but it may have been wrong keywords.

anyone aware of any for-sale custom combi packages? something where combi's of popular songs, instrument pairings, etc?

i did try downloading from a korg/karma site but the files were all corrupted with the exception of a combi called Radias or something. another had about 16 combis that were decent.

just curious. i'll likely try and get back into doing the work myself, but with a kurzweil, roland, and a Motif xf, i get fuddled at times.

many thanks and merry christmas to ya'll
Gear:
Motif XF7 w/FC7 pedal
Korg M50 w/Exp-2 pedal

What you're looking for are generally called "3rd party patches" - patches because they're named for programs from very old analog machines that used actual patch cords to join together modules.

Third party developers such as Kid Nepro or Space4Keys usually put together either a whole or partial bank that will (generally) include both patches (single programs) and combos.

These banks may be further characterized by genre such as Soundscapes, Pop/Rock, Film Score, Ambient, etc. to give you a general feel for what's included.

For the most part it is very unusual to find "like the record" emulation patches for specific songs -- I can think of only one company that was doing anything like that and that was a Yamaha-Motif-series-only package of dead-on 80's patches which were A/B'd on their website to demonstrate their outstanding products.

Since you could easily spend $100 or more on commercially offered 3rd party stuff, I would exhaust the free .pcg files available here and elsewhere before I went with a way costlier alternative with (maybe) iffy results.
