Touchscreen unresponsive.

Post by Control »

Hey all,

I've recently moved and during the process i think my kaoss pad may have taken a knock. Since then my touchscreen has stopped working. The screen lights up, but is not responsive to touch. As well, the piece that switches my device from MIC / Input has been broke :\

I'm able to force the input button over and that works fine, but my touchscreen does not respond to anything.

Before I go looking in to replacement parts or a brand new KP3, I was curious if anyone around here had any ideas as to what I could do to try and get the current screen working again.

So far I've attempted a re-calibration, but that will not work as the screen does not respond. I've thought about opening it up to see if there is any visible damage, or something unplugged, but didn't know if there was anything i could try before opening the poor thing up... maybe a factory reset?? :P

Any suggestions??
:D

Calibration Method:

While powering on the KP3 hold down programm buttons 7, 8 and the sampling button.
The display should show "CAL1". Now touch the pad exactly on the bright position and wait until the next position lights up.

Repeat this until the display shows "P.off"
Restart your KP3 and check if the whole pad is working again.

Last night I tried a factory reset by the following method:

1. Press 1 and 2 and Sampling while powering on the KP3.
2. "PrLD" will appear in the LED.
3. C will be on, D will be flashing.
4. Press D.
5. "urt" will flash in the LED.
6. "P.off" will then appear in the LED.
7. Power off and on the KP3.

That did nothing so I took the pad apart and disconnected the touch screen and reconnected it.

After I turned it back on, the pad was still unresponsive.

I noticed when I press the "Hold" button, the touch pad holds on the bottom left corner. Is this where the device defaults? I've never noticed before as i'm usually touching the pad before i press hold..

Anyone have any other ideas by chance?[

Hi Control,

you could try to measure the pad´s resistance with a multimeter.
If it does not change while you touching the pad then it seems to be defect.
Or you could send the touchscreen to somebody who also has a KP3 to check if the touchscreen is working on his pad.

Best regards

Thanks Marxon :) my buddy has a kp3 and i am going to test it with his touchscreen when i get the chance. In the meantime my screen started responding sort of, however when i press the screen it will follow my finger but on the furthest right side of the screen no mater where i touch it. I tried another calibration, but that didn't work :(

Also, does anyone know if i can control my KP3 screen through MIDI with my Kaossilator Pro touch screen?

When you say to test the resistance with a multimeter do you mean just touching the screen with a multimeter?

I have a multimeter at work, but i'm not too familiar with using it.
