Yes you can.

Pages 36 through 70 of the English Users Manual cover all the procedures in depth. These pages also cover how to create and edit PADs which are somewhat similar in the creation process to Styles. I would suggest you first read pages 36-37 and get a good understanding of the structure of Styles. There are the basic elements of a Style like Intros 1-2-3, Variations 1-2-3-4, Fills 1-2-3-4, Break and Endings 1-2-3, but some of these elements can be broken down into smaller elements called CVs (Chord Variations) CVs allow you to program styles with variations dependent on the type of chord played in the left hand. For example, Variation 1 (and 2, 3 & 4) can have 6 different stylistic patterns depending on the chord type you play. Within the CV's you can program 8 tracks, DRUM, PERC, BASS, ACC1, ACC2, ACC3, ACC4 & ACC5

I've found it easier to create the style elements in a midi edit program on my PC then Import the midi sections to the style I'm creating.

Hi Rick, is there a good simple to use, free midi editor you'd recommend? Thanks.

The youtube videos are for the King Korg

Post by gamhazell »

Thanks for the videos. But they are for the king Korg. Does anyone know if the style record mode function is on the pa600? How many styles can I record on the PA600?

Actually the uploader's name is "King Korg", he is programming the PA3X is is pretty much identical to the PA600 as far as style programming.

I've found it easier to create the style elements in a midi edit program on my PC then Import the midi sections to the style I'm creating.
I just want to add for who maybe got some problem with importing midi (SMF) file to style, midi need to be format in midi0 format.
Most midi editors saving midi in midi1, which is not correct for Korg Pa600 style creating .
I find very simple free software do this converting.

I hope that's help .

Yes, the PA600 User Manual mentions 5 times that you must use SMF format 0 ;-)

From FL studio to Korg Style.

Post by Nemik »

After many hours of research, watching YouTube videos I think I find good way for me and maybe for many of us to make Style. :D
Because I'm using software I already own I had to create the way to use them.
Tools I use is my favorite DAW FL studio (I think free demo version can do)and free software called gn1to0 and midi file song you want to have style for.
Later maybe if someone needed I'll try make very details of process, but now I gonna just tell short version how I did.
  • 1. Open midi file using Fl studio, if ask for Accept Importing midi file , do it.
  • 2. Then in pattern selector split tracks by channel.
  • 3. In playlist insert all channel separately to separate tracks .
    • Make sure snap is set for cell!!
    • This process give you good view on entire sound, where you have to decide how you going to cut tracks for parts. (Intros, Variations, Fill, Break, endings).
    • This going be longest process, take you time, use notepad and pen and write from which Bar and beat to which.
    • Many times midi file is not sync with time bars. You have to use your skills and move to right bar/beat and if you doing this you have to do on each track same way.
    • Of course you need to do this in pattern not playlist.
  • 4. When you ready for creating parts: In Pattern view add new channel and named it Intro 1cv1 or whatever you creating.
  • 5. Now start coping parts from entire sections channels to new channel.
    • Remember element of style can have only 8 channels (9-16) and channel 10 has to be Drums!!
    • Keep testing, make sure sound good and copy same length of each. when you done copying you can adjust some parameters: velocity, panning etc is more easy do on PC that on korg (you still can do this later)
  • 6. When all play ok you need to go to each track except Drums on piano roll and move all notes to one chord .
    • If your Variation has for example: D maj, F# minor, B minor, A major you need make all in C major for CV1 and make clone pattern and make all in A minor for CV2.
    • Only in Intro 1 and Ending 1 can stay without changing
    • Imaging entire variation is playing in one C major chord, means all track: base, pads, solos arpeggios etc.
  • 7. When everything looks ok you need change channels #.
    • Drums needs to be on #10, Bass #9, on channel 11 you can use something else that percussion, but later you need change on Korg too, 12-16 are channels for whatever instrument you want to
  • 8. Now you need save this new pattern as midi file.
    • Use names you can later recognize. (I1cv1, var1cv1 etc.).
  • 9. New created midi file open using gn1to0 program and convert for midi 0 format.
  • 10. Repeat this from point 4 for all elements you needed for your style.
  • 11. When you finish all, import this midi files one by one to your style elements in you KorgPa600.
    • If you not make any mistake your new style should be done. :)
I did try make midi with markers on FL studio, but won't work, is not saving marks :( I know others DAW can do but I'm not buying any more software just to make MIDI :D
I hope this will help somebody . If anybody still having problem figure out just ask for details.
BTW. You don't need to use midi file, you can create your own music same way, or maybe almost the same :).
Good luck. have it fun.
