Sequencer Templates (Edit)

This is an edited update of my previous post.

I would like to be able to have a completely blank template come up when using "new song" in the sequencer. I'm probably missing something here, but I would like to just put in the instruments I'll be using instead of having all tracks filled with timbres I won't be using. For instance the 1st track is a drum kit (pop template), I go in and change it to a (104) Saw pizz. when I go back it still shows a drum kit until I hit right arrow and then I see the Saw Pizz again.The instrument seems to stick but I keep seeing the drum kit come up. Very new to this so any help would be appreciated.
