I've had my Kronos for less than one day, my opinion so far.

Have to say I should have brought this months ago.

I also want to stress that when I read about the build quality on parts of this forum it was one of the things that put me off.

I personally think the build quality feels superb. I think some people may have over exaggerated the build quality, or else were extremely unlucky with the kronos they received (but in their defence, if I had one of the first ones with the data wheel problem and then the keybed problem, I too would have complained about the quality).

After reading this forum, I was pleasantly surprised how good the quality is. Just want to encourage those not sure about it that you wont regret it.

The only thing that could have been designed better quality wise is the front bar. It does it's job, but on my new machine, there's a larger gap between the outer keys and the bar than the middle keys. but even that, I probably wouldn't have noticed if I hadn't read about it on the this forum, hence made a point of looking at it.

My eyesight isn't what it used to be and I can understand why some people with eyesight worse than mine might struggle with the small writing on the screen. However, I was very concerned about the delay of the PC editor as I thought the touch screen would be a huge problem for me, but it's so crisp, clear and sharp, it reminds me of my Ipad 3, nothing blurry at all. I personally am not going to have any problem reading it.

Am a bit overwhelmed by it at the moment, not sure what to do first. So far I haven't watched the supplied vids or read any part of the manual, just been caught up trying out various pre-set sounds :)

Think I'll grab a coffee and watch the vids and take it from there.

I have cheap Wharfedale active monitors that I use on the occasions I actually properly try to mix things, but I usually play through my Mission speakers connected to a hi-fi amp. Some sounds, especially some of the organ sounds are not handled well by my Mission speakers, The Wharfdale handle them fine, so it appears that at some point down the line I may have to buy better speakers. But I value my life too much at the moment to dare suggest this to my wife :)

Sold the M3-M to a forum member and have 2 offers on my
Extreme on ebay with a 3rd person asking me about it. Am going to loose about £300 on what I brought it for in January but they don't seem to be selling at the moment for much more :(

Still. that will be over half what I paid and I also have zero use for the free hard case as it will never be moved from where it is now, so I could possibly sell that too.

All in all a very good week and I've got all day to spend pm my Kronos so why on earth am I still typing.

Speak to you all later

best

Joe

Hi Joe,

I would leave the manuals for a while, they are very useful but a bit slow for an excited new user!

As I new user I found the Korg tutorial videos very useful, and also Qui's videos are fantastic. I would go for the Korg ones first as they give a good overview.

Have a nice afternoon :)

Highly recommend watching the Korg videos several times and use Pause to try the steps you see.

Don't forget the Help feature that's built in too.

Glad to hear you're enjoying your new purchase, Joe! For me, it only got better over time as I started using the engines more and realized I could pretty much always make it do what I needed it to!

pretty exciting, getting a new keyboard, then discovering just how deep she goes.

It took me about three weeks just to get a handle on the thing, going through combi after combi, spending hours just jamming away, then I all of a sudden I found out that the programs are just as exciting as the combis.

My wife would come out to the studio and asked me why the hell I hadn't come in for dinner. She could feel the love I had for the Kronos, so she when out and bought a new car.

congrats, and remember it's not really alive, you can't eat it and you should not sleep with it,

It is an "it" after all! or is it? :o

Congratulations on the purchase, and welcome to the club!

Twelve months after I purchased my Kronos, I still get excited every time I sit down to play it. I'm still learning new things and feel like I have barely scratched the surface.

So, enjoy the journey.

This is the kind of stuff I love hearing. I was getting my perception colored by some of the negatives and I'm finding that my other pro rigs now seem like toys while I wait for my replacement to ship (GC just did a swap when I reported 2xTrigger and the manager verified the serial was +3600). Fortunately I did not name it so returning it was easier.

Now all we have to worry about is finding enough time in the day without aggravating our "Kronos widows" right?

I have my Kronos for over a year now and still haven't started exploring most of the engines in detail.

Yeah, this synth has made me really picky. I had a go at the Krome where i work. Before the Kronos, i might have been impressed by this board, but i was so bored with the on-board sounds(although it's a very good price/performance ratio). The people at Korg will have to work real magic to go beyond that with the Kronos successor. But, we always say that when the new flagship arrives, don't we?

I just got my Kronos X 73.
LOVE IT !!!

I had been using a Triton Pro (SCSI, MOSS Board and the PCM Vintage Synth/Keyboard card) for many years and decided to upgrade.

I've been sitting with it for 2 days now.

I only have 2 complaints.

1- It seems that the display (I actually love it's size and color) is not ergonomically designed. After many hours sitting with the Kronos I found that I was actually having to hunch so far over the display to see it that my neck and back were killing me. A slight angle for the display is very much needed.

2- The Jog Dial is very cheap. It feels so cheap that I fear that if I use it too much it will break. This is a big disappointment as everything else is of good quality and feels durable.. My Triton has a better and more durable Jog Dial. :(

However...
All in all it truly is the best workstation I've ever seen...I'm very happy with it and I'm glad I held off buying the M3 when I had the chance.

I agree on the jog dial, mine sort of scrapes as I turn it. Although it has done it less today than it did yesterday.

But the rest is so awesome, I don't worry about it :)

After waiting for more than a year, I got my kronos 88 today. I was kind of worried because I had no chance to test it before taking it back home from the shop.

After unpacking it, I checked everything that I got to read in this forum as well as the web and I gotta say that I love this thing. :)

Keybed seems to be working ok, no cut-off notes or any of the problems reported here yet, serial number is 3300 something, O.S. is 1.5.2 and I can't barely hear fan moving, just only a few seconds when it boots up and then no fan noise at all.

Had my Kronos 88 2 days now...

I was a pro keyboard player for many years. About 12 years ago I gave it up except for a hobby, and really haven't touched them for 7 years while I've been playing violin in a wedding string quartet. (Great money, 6 minutes to set/tune up, and I get fed as well!)

About 6 months ago the itch started to come back. I looked at the old rig and decided I needed to pare it down/upgrade it. The only thing I kept from the 7 rack modules was the Korg N1r. (Try as I might, I just can't sell that module- it has far too many usable sounds.) I cut down to 2 keys, a K2500 and a Roland XV88, and a Triton-Rack and Yamaha Motif were added to the rack. Unfortunately, the XV88 does not a good foundation keyboard make. It just falls short of the necessary sounds needed. So, I did some research, rebooted the rig, decided to pull the trigger, and got the Kronos 88.

I haven't actually owned a Korg workstation keyboard since my M1, which I had from 89-99, and interestingly, the learning curve on the Kronos is not that much more complicated. Sure, it's deeper- tremendously so, but the concepts are still quite similar. It might help that I'm a computer engineer by trade, and have about 7-8 Linux boxes here amongst the myriad computers I have, but more so is that fact that the Kronos has a musicality about it- you can dive right in and start playing

I haven't quite wrapped my head around KARMA yet, and might not bother, as I like to play my parts, not have accompaniment, and I do all my sequencing in Sonar on my PC, which makes several parts of the Kronos overkill as far as my needs, but aside from that, sonically, it's a winner.
