Setting up Kronos for live performance
Hi-
I am a long time Motif ES user and a new Kronos owner. One of the features I use often on the Motif is to play along with sequences in mix (sequencer) mode. What I do is sequence the parts I need then play the parts that I want live. What makes this easy on the Motif is that to the right are 16 buttons that correspond to the 16 tracks/midi channels, so it's easy to move around by pressing the numbered track/channel button for the sound I want. When I began to use the Kronos sequencer I'm bound to the touch screen whiuch is cumbersome when performing. Is there a way to duplicate my Motif setup with the Kronos?
My other question is: Can I have a sequence playing while in set mode and have different programs or combis on the set grid assigned to different midi channels to get the result I'm looking for? Or will the previous sound or sequence cut off when I change a patch in set mode? Thanks.

hi, communitybfc
I don't have a MOTIF, but I have an S90ES and I understand how you used your MOTIF.
I used to use the Multi mode to play with my band. So I could change timbres without cutting the sound by changing the parts (midi channels).
On Kronos you can change between parts on the sequence mode, but the sound will be cut. You can't even change with any key pressed. So it does not work like the Motif.
One way is to use the setlist mode. If you set the same sequence on several slots, the song will not be stopped when you change the slot.
For each slot you can filter which midi channel you want to play.
I am not in front of the Kronos right now, so I cant give you exact instructions on how to filter the midi channel on a setlist slot.
I hope this helps.

Are you sure about that? I need to try that. I had no idea this was possible.bsbsantos wrote: One way is to use the setlist mode. If you set the same sequence on several slots, the song will not be stopped when you change the slot.

Each Sequencer slot in the Set List allows you to choose which track is the active track to be played. Is this what you're referring to? That is slick if it really works. I've gotta try that when I return home.bsbsantos wrote:One way is to use the setlist mode. If you set the same sequence on several slots, the song will not be stopped when you change the slot.

I don't think there are demosequences but you could just really simply record a bit and put a different instrument on the second channel and try it. If it works, it works. Technically, it should work with ANY sequence. You just have to set it up in Set List but that can't take more than five minutes for all 16 slots.

So if you have Track 1 and Track 2 set to midi channel 1 (splited or layered), you can either select track 1 or 2 on the setlist slot.
It works so fine.
A tip would be to copy the same sequence to all slots on the same setlist page. If you accidently select one slot that does not contain the same sequence, the song will be stopped.

Thanks, I got it, you have to select the active track to play... I see
You were talking about filtering midi channels, so I though to you this feature as step sequencer...
If you could play/ mute different channels between setlist slots, you could switch between different midi loops...
Unfortunately I can choose only the track to play. Is it possible to play more than one instrument, if I layer on the same midi channels in the sequence?
