Real cello
There's often talk about real string sounds in the Kronos section (and to be honest many other competing keyboards forums), so if you forgive that this does not exactly relate to the Kronos, I just uploaded an old track that the fine mrs cello and I did some years ago.
This lets you hear a real cello in the hands of an expert (and doubling over the bridges and at the end wonderfully; done senza misura!).
Will understand if mods or anyone else wants to move this - it's just that someone might find it useful to tweak their own cello sound on the Kronos.

Simply wonderful!
Outstanding piece, Cello.
It's really amazing how talented the members of this community are.
Question, is the Kronos used at all in this piece ?
I'm just hoping I can figure out how to make my pieces (mostly a piano player) more realistic and with stereo surround sound recording
such as you have in this piece without using an external DAW or other equipment.
Very nice indeed!!!

That is indeed the problem - one can sample the sound faithfully but it's how it's played that counts. It is possible with good samples to get really quite close - although I have only fooled my wife once and that was with a heavily tweaked KSL cello on the OASYS.SoulBe wrote:Hi Cello,
nice piece.
I think the problem with emulating string instruments is that keys don´t allow the fine nuances of modulation the real player can do with his fingers and the switching of playing styles.

You almost have to play the keyboard like the cello and very judicious use of vibrato (aftertouch or otherwise) and touch sensitivity.
Glad you liked it

No, the kronos isn't in this piece; it was done on the M3 a while back. I would like to revisit it using the OASYS and Jupiter 80

No DAW involved; all done 'freehand' on a Korg D3200. The effects that are used are from the D3200 either as line in or track.
It is possible to be very realistic - but I have found such things can't be programmed as such (as in a DAW) - it has to happen inspirationally, almost at that moment in time. It makes recording other tracks on top very difficult (as was the case in this piece) as you can hear the tempo change a few times and there is rubato in several places and then it is very much a tempo then leads to senza misura at the end...
Glad you like it too

Indeed, that immediately popped into my head, Cello. What do you think of the JP80 cello? It sounds pretty darn good to me. Your thoughts appreciated since you have an almost unique perspective.cello wrote: No, the kronos isn't in this piece; it was done on the M3 a while back. I should feel ashamed when I mimic a string sound after hearing this beautiful music.
Congratulations to you for sharing and arraning (I assume) and your wife for the playing of the cello.

Re: Simply wonderful!
Thanks again everyone for your encouraging and kind comments

Bearing in mind this is a Korg forum, I will keep my comments in a comparative context!
The onboard OASYS cello is weak - but has its uses in full score orchestral arrangements. The Karo Symphonic Library changed that (available for Kronos now). The KSL cellos - a couple in particular - are highly soloistic and one of the sounds was the one that fooled Mrs Cello! I did spend a good amount of time tweaking but it certainly was worth it.
The JP-80 on the other hand has a fabulous cello (SN Acoustic). Add to that the dynamic articulation, you can do much more with it than the OASYS/KSL version. I wouldn't use the JP-80 cello in an orchestral 'filler' context as its character is too strong. But for solo lines it is very convincing indeed.
As with all sounds - EPs, electric guitars, etc - the topic is highly subjective. But in summary, I use the OASYS/KSL cellos for orchestral pieces, with occasional solo work. I use the JP-80 for only solo work as it has that strong character combined with the expressive SN capabilities.
Mrs Cello will practice daily between 2 and 6hrs depending on whether she's playing orchestral, chamber or solo concerto music. So I'm used to hearing it! But again - I am familiar with the sound of HER cello... Mrs Cello recently trialled another cello which was worth double her current one (we're talking hundreds of thousands here!), but it didn't sound so good and she wasn't as comfortable playing it. Mrs Cello continues with her Joseph Hill (made in 1770).
So, almost like the real thing, the cost is less important than how it feels to play and how it sounds. I prefer playing the JP-80 cello because of the SN capability - but in a more subtle, genteel way, the OASYS/KSL cellos are hugely satisfying when it comes to orchestral works.

It's my take drawn from several sources - but as Mrs Cello likes to remind me, "you do the music, I sprinkle the musical magic dust on top..." She's got a point!michelkeijzers wrote:I should feel ashamed when I mimic a string sound after hearing this beautiful music.
