bose L1 compact with pa3x
Hi,
Is any one using bose l1 compact single unit with korg? Wanted to find out how it sounds on piano, and does it gives some punch in bass when playing dance styles.
I want to take ur opinion before buying one. I want to play for an audience upto 60 both in hall and open area. Also if bass is sufficient to make them dance?.
Thanks,
Vikram

We've been using a Bose Model II w/Tonematch with my Pa1XPro for a couple of years. We're typically playing rooms from 60-150 people and we're very satisfied with the system. Everything, keyboard, vocals goes through the Bose and it's been flawless all the way - no lack of punch or volume. That said, it might depend on your audiences preferences in music. If you're looking for the floor-shaking thump that a young dance crowd like, then you may need someting more substantial.
The Model II has the separate bass module, so I can't vouch for how the Compact is in this regard. But if your budget can extend to the Model II with the Tonematch, I'd say go for it. (It's only another gig a week
). Still, hold on and see what Compact owners have to say.

I´m using the Bose Compact single unit, but I use 2 of them, becouse of the stereo effect, and I think 2 units gives the necessary power to play for a bigger audience. I usually play for from 20 to 150 people and the sound is very good, clear with plenty of bass and dynamics and evenly spread.
Since I´v got the Pa3X I don´t need the tonematch, Maxx Audio and EQ gives plenty of chances to adjust your sound and to match the acustic of the place.

My 2 cents, steer well clear of this system.
It's a mono system and sending a stereo signal into the ToneMatch Stereo input (Channel 4 & 5) produces horrible phase problems.
If you have plenty of $$$ to spend, then if you buy two systems so you can play in stereo, then it sounds awesome.
A single systems though is to be avoided in my opinion. It actually causes sound problems with phase and it kills the mid tones.

The stereo/mono debate is a bit moot, I think. In a room full of very absorbent homo sapiens, ten feet out from the stage any stereo effect is all but gone anyway, no matter what system is used. On ours we have the vocals into Channel 1 and the Korg (left/right out) into Channel 3. Never use 4 and 5, so I've no valid comment on them.
The range of EQ and effects on the Tonematch is pretty comprehensive - more than you'd ever need on yer average gig. So, if your mids are a bit flat, and I can't say it's ever been a problem for us (every room is different anyway), just do your soundcheck diligently, that's the key with any system, Bose or any other.
Never had any complaint from the paying customers, either. In fact, since we've had the Bose we've heard nothing but good comments on how we sound better.

I started out with the original L1 system. Then I got second one. At the time I was doing some really big outdoor jobs.
Then they came out with the Compact system, so I got one to try. It sounded so good that I bought a second one for smaller jobs.
Turns out I never used the big systems again, so after about a year I sold both of them.
I used a single Compact for a couple of months before I bought the second one. At the time I had a Ketron Audya keyboard. It sounded great. I used a small stereo mixer and ran the left and right outputs into the stereo inputs on the Compact. I didn't use a Tonematch.
After I got the second Compact, I loved the sound even more and since that time have always used two of them.
Now I run left side of the PA3X to one of them, and the right output to the other. Great sound, PLENTY of bass, plenty of mids and highs. I use very little e.q. I have played jobs up to 250 people with no problem.
I played one Mardi Gras Party with about 400 people, and I pushed the two Compacts to the extreme. They did the job but there was a few minutes that I wished I had the bigger ones. That's the only time I've missed them.
My opinion: one Compact will do just fine. Two Compacts will be wonderful!
I play five nights a week most of the time at a high-end supper club with a small dance floor. The beauty of the Bose systems is that people at the tables a few feet from me can carry on conversations, while people at the back of the room, 75 feet away here virtually the same level of sound.

Hi,
I, too, have the L1 Compact and have used it for well over two years playing several gigs with it. I have enjoyed the system as it sounds great, and have had many compliments from both the general audience as well as other musicians. I run cables from the left & right ouputs on my PA3X to the RCA inputs on the compact. Bass is adequate for my purposes. The type of music I play is for the older set so not much hard rock sounds. Love my PA3X, too.

Hope I'm not to late to provide my assessment. I have 2 L1 Model II's with twin base for each and also use the ToneMatch. I am a using the PA3X61 and run my keyboard out of Ch 4/5 on the ToneMatch. I use Ch 1 for vocals and Ch 2 for vocal harmonies. Depending on where I am playing I may use one stick with twin base or if the venue is bigger I'll use both sticks. In any case the music sounds great according to my audiences. Bose recommends running the arranger from left out to one of the Bose amplifiers and the right out to the other for stereo effect. I have not tried that yet. I'm an old guy and have cut down on the big stuff and have gotten everything into a pretty compact package including the PA3X 61 key. So far things are working fine. Take care all and keep playing music.
