How do you create a modwheel effect?
Hi,
I'm new to this forum though have just 'signed in' last week on the New Members Forum (and have received some kind acknowledgements--thank you) and would like straightaway to register my appreciation for the help I, as a rank amateur, have gained from the many contributors on problem-solving etc on this beautiful instrument. For me the Oasys is a musical marvel--function button and all!.
Briefly, I've shadowed this site for some while and am familiar with many members-musically speaking of course! In fact, I've complied a ring-binder containing their tips etc for easy access which has been invaluable.
This is it.
Please assume I know nothing--but I want to assign a slider, say slider 1, to act as a modwheel to handle dynamics/velocity. I have a few Third Party libraries which use this effect frequently. CC1 comes to mind though it might be another CC. I'll need a walk-through probably. I get confused by the Parameter guide on the MIDI section. I expect a member has achieved this already but if anyone could help, this would be tremendous. (Why hasn't Korg put modwheels on their keyboards?) I don't want to buy a Mackie or Tascam or similar for this task when the solution is probably very simple.
Regards,
Patrick

The Joystick +Y action on Korg's workstations takes the role of the modwheel. It's pretty cool as you get a 2nd modwheel 'free' on the JS-y direction.
MIDI standard for modwheel is CC1
CC2 is 'breath' which is what Korg use for JS-Y. The combination of the two can make a performance quite expressive.
I guess the 'conformist' way of getting JS+Y to 'stay put' like a modwheel is to set SW1 or 2 to 'joystick lock' so that pressing it causes it to hold its value after you let go.

How do you create a modwheel effect
I expect this reply might end up anywhere. Apologies to all if it should. IT and me inhabit different planets, When I was at school, the abacus was all the rage.
SoulBe and X-Trade.
Many thanks for your replies. I'll be trying them both.
Before I do, just in passing, if you go Global>Midi >External 1 you arrive at a page full of CC's. Is this where I should start to synchronise or assign not only the CC's with my external libraries (and the mixer on my DAW-- Cubase) but for the modwheel effect down on, say, slider one ? This, I think, is what the Parameter Guide says. Presumably, this page comes into play somewhere.
Alternatively, the joystick route may be simplest.

Patrick

Bumping this along a bit, the Parameter Guide tells you what External 1 does but not how you do it and this is where I get frustrated and stuck. At times like this, I have been known to succumb to impulse buying and go out to get another inteface that does the same job as External 1 as opposed to sitting down quietly and working it out. Having bought the O which will integrate with external DAWs, why buy another interface which handles CC's as well! More cables, more hassle,.....etc
These things come to try us.

Hi Patrick,
now I´m in front of the Oasys, so the steps are:
1. Press the Global Mode button
2. in Global mode tap the MIDI tab
3. tab the EXTERNAL 1 tab
Here you can address the knobs and sliders with Channel and CC number, f.e. slider 1 midichannel 1 and CC 001 (Modwheel)
4. Now, and that is important: Press the EXTERNAL button left to the sliders and make sure that it is enlightened so that you are in external mode, ohterwise the sliders will affect karma, volume etc.
Now all should work fine. I tested with my garritan Instant Orchestra VST and it worked well.
I find it more comfortable to use the slider or a knob for blending textures rather than the Korg stick because the stick returns to middle position and to fix it with the switches is not very comfortable.
I hope you can work it out know.
best regards

How to create a modwheel effect
SoulBe,
Many thanks for taking time to try this and then replying. I am grateful. The number of times I've sat before the O not really noticing the External button but now I expect to wear it out.
Your help here, with others, on this topic is very reminiscent of that given 3/4 years back when everyone was getting to grips with the O. Tips for many. I recommend the archive forums to everyone. So much to do: so little time to do it in.
You mention Garritan. Do you by any chance have the 3 Spectrasonics libraries--Omnisphere, Trilian and RMX which integrate with each other. If not, you might like them. I've not nearly mastered them yet but the sounds you can create are phenomenal/limitless. Retailers do decent discounts on a bundle if you press them hard enough.
Thank you again on my first post. I'm sure I can work the modwheel out along your lines when I next get the chance.

Hi Patrick,
I´m happy if I could help; that´s the spirit of this community.
I have omnisphere and it is a good sounding "beast"; I still haven´t scratched all sounds
; the next vsti I´m looking for is EWQL Symphonic choirs because of the word builder; this seems to be really fascinating
best regards

How to create a modwheel effect
SoulBE,
Just read your last post. Thanks.
Going off topic but one good turn deserves another, have you also considered for choral libraries Requiem Pro from 8BRIO or VOXOS from Cinesamples ? Both have wordbuild features but they are perhaps more limited than EW. It seems words in Latin are easier to create than phrases in English or German perhaps, and I'm not sure that when you combine your 'choir' on top of your other instruments (usually strings), you're going to hear the words clearly enough, so your good work with EW may not be as appreciated by others as you would like.
I don't have any choir VST's yet but just looking.
