KP3 as a midi controller

Post by andy24 »

I am very new to this stuff and have not spent too much time on it yet, but i have heard people say that the kp3 can function as a midi controller. I'm very interested in that, i've never done anything MIDI before but was considering getting a little m-audio controller until i heard of the possibility of using my kaos pad. I installed the kp3 editor software last night but haven't been able to do anything with it yet. my goal is to get into midi programming within pro tools m-powered just lightly at first, programming drum beats and such. i've read the manual and sat down trying to figure it out but a lot of this is over my head. is it possible to use my kp3 in this capacity? if so, how? i'm taking firewire out of the kp3 into a usb port on my macbook pro. is that the only connection i need? i know controllers don't transfer audio, but i'm thinking the USB connection will control the data (assignmets, tempo, etc) and i can use it to trigger the tones/sounds/hits/whatever already in pro tools. tips?

The pad sends CC (control change) values... you would need to convert these to MIDI note values. I haven't been successful yet... Keep us posted!
