2loose - 1001 Nights - Feb 2011

Here goes February. We're diggin out of a blizzard and I'm gettin my jingle posted. Anyway, this ended up sounding like a slight mid-eastern or Indian vibe so I titled it 1001 Nights (what's the buzz mix). I have been engineering some new sounds for the m3 that are fattening up the buzz synth stuff and with some of the comments, namely SEWA who often says he'd like more lead sounds, I added more lead this time.

Man, I love this.

That part at 0:26 reminds me of something, something in a videogame that I've head before. You implemented it really well, I loved that part. Then the song kicks into full gear. This song really has a metal feel to it. Awesome.

Oh, I also liked the part at 1:02. I could imagine a sitar fading in at that moment. The end sounded great too. You probably could've easily extended the song there, with the ending riff. But the song is perfect as is.

Really great work. I enjoyed this one a lot.

Thanks, Pumpkin. My friends are digging this one also. I do like that it's as short as it is, it kinda makes you want to just play it again to keep the energy going. Actually there are a lot of pitch bends here, I'm working on adding more of that. It's tricky to get them right and for a long time I hardly ever used them. It's amazing what they do to the timbre of the program when it slides up or down a notch or two.

At about 0:27, it does that pitch bend like the one in the beginning of this track.

But yeah, pitch bending really does have its advantages. Whether you use it the way you did in the beginning of your track, or just using it while soloing. I can't go without the pitch bend when doing synth solos.

Synthetic Orch. background sound is grt,!!! nice balance .., and the perc. as usual great!!! The METAL feel as noted by Pumkin King is there, but not overbearing Like it VERY much...

Really nice intro as well!!!

Love the general tune in the snth lead where it occurs...Sounds good as an old school synth sound as well as modernized...

I ALWAYS enjoyed the truly 2 loose sounds you give us , and play your Up Against the Wall on occasion even though its a few years old now...Still GOOD to me!

Main tune in the treble has a nice bounce where needed and yet is easy to pick out of the mix!! Nice!

Hi George

What a great way to kick off my listening tonight! As always you have come up with another song that is brimming with ideas and themes and sub-themes. It's all very tight and every instrument sits just right in the mix. I like the feel at about 1:38 when you have something new on top of what came before - it works very well.

Really nice energetic feel too - you got me dancing in my chair!

Seriously though, my headphones need to cool down after the listen. Its another explosive mix from 2loose Powerhouse This time its all spiced up with the lead which is very well executed IMHO. First the sound; its very well selected and it cuts through the mix even though there are lots of things going on in the background. Then there's the panning. I think its a brilliant idea and it adds quite a lot to the action.

You also must have been playing with scales or something because at 1:24 (for example) you got his oriental feel which is another interesting variation.

I like this one keep them coming.

SEWA, truly, I do take suggestions seriously, esp from someone who works in my genre, which we both do, sort of. As my style is primarily rock done on a synth, I almost always end up with a bed of music and rhythms that are fairly thick and busy, and in this case, the lead was an after thought, so as I had those orchestral hits accenting the last half of each phrase I decided the lead could start out each phrase and then the hits are an echo or response to the lead notes. Also, all my practice with pitch bender is bringing out more color with the notes and scales I select. I am trying to make full use of the m3 by experimenting with all it has, namely, the ribbon, the joystick, the xy pad etc. I can't promise all my songs will have this pizazz or energy, but I do feel I've raised the bar with this one. Maybe I'll start out the cd with this one ...

Man, this is so far ahead of me....how do you do this? I love the various progressions melded here and the old-style synth a la Emerson, Lake, and Palmer "freaks" me out...great stuff......

Ron, I "do" this by lately I've engineered some new sounds using available programs layered and then sampled across the keyboard and am using them for the buzzy, riff stuff that makes up the bed for the rest of the instrumentation. Also, I've worked my butt off getting my drums to pound. Add to that, more pitch bend practice and there you go. Thanks for the encouragement.

Hi George, I've lisened to your song a few times now and it just gets better and better, although the first time I listened I didn't like it, but it has grown on me, hearing a lot of old synth noises and beats from my past really lit it up for me. Great song, keep it up!

Thank you for giving this some time to gel in your musical brain. It's interesting that at first you didn't like it, then it grew on you. I have experienced that at times myself, when at first I'm not that impressed or it doesn't go where I seem to want it to go. But then sometimes you "get" it and it does become a favorite. I often find songs that I immediately love, meaning they are easily accessible and main-streamish, sometimes I end up not liking them over the long haul, once the newness wears off. I found your comment most intersting.
