Pumpkin King - January 11

Post by Pumpkin King »

This is the last song I finished using my Triton Extreme...well, sort of finished. I didn't add in any lead sound at the 1:00 mark. And I won't be adding it in any time soon since I don't have my keyboard with me, and won't have it for a few months. It's gonna be hard making music without that thing.

I'll be using garageband after this, and I'll be waiting on the keystation 88es to arrive at my dorm.

Anyways, this song is called Bleak. Again, I used the Triton Extreme and I need only one more track to be recorded to make the song finished.

I like this. Very laid back. I almost forgot it was on actually. Which isn't a bad thing - that's how I like my music!

Didn't like the lead strings (or whatever it was) part much though as it sounded kind of abrupt, monophonic, and kind of eastern in places. I don't know - I just didn't 'get' it.
I think it would have sounded better with a solo violin voice rather than a chorus/ensemble like it appears here.

Thanks for the feedback.

Yeah, you may be right about the lead strings sound. Though I don't think it helped that I left out the lead track at 1:00. So the strings probably sounded a little abrupt.

Still, I think I could've experimented a little with different electronic strings/pads, to find a proper sound. It's just I was trying something different, adding a movie soundtrack approach by adding the strings...but keeping true to the sound of the song by adding an echo effect, among other tweaks.

Too bad I can't experiment with it right now. I really wish I had my keyboard with me...

this starts out nice and ambient-ish, i really love the chords and melodies playing around with each other, i wonder if even some more effects on the strings would make them seem less like a not-so-perfect acoustic string emulation, maybe a more melotron sound would be stronger, you'll find out i guess once you get your gear back and can tinker a bit more, i do think you have a great sounding piece that deserves the finishing touches, very nice job i'd say

Thanks george.

Yeah, I'm sure I'll figure something out once I start working on it again. I already have some ideas.

Hi Joe This song is really good and I like it a lot, the timbre is so nice to listen to, it flows along just like a river meandering down stream. The texture of the synths is good and where did you get that snare sound from? Great tune Joe!

Thanks for the comments Joe. I appreciate it.

And, just like nearly all my songs, everything is done with the Triton Extreme.

Hello again !!!! Long time since I was here... Nice to hear this, indeed !!!!!

LOVE the intro the entrance of the heavier "bleak" feel is very nice, and the BELLS spot on....!

The main "first" (support) melody is also nice and has a decided feel of kind of sad but "aware" sound

The NEAT forths in parallel.., lends even more to this feel! Good! (Should they have maybe gone for TWO repeats instead of the four? ? Just a thought)

The Overall sound of your instrumentation is great and your "stringy" main theme melody at 2:00 ... VERY nice!!, and has a feel of real quality and thought .

I of course, haven't a clue what your additional sound will add but you have quite a lot going on here already

Very nice and thoughtful progression also with some change that really adds to the feel throughout..

The 3:00-3:03 new rhythmic sound YES!!! Right, at the right time, in my estimation! VERY nice

I would have liked to see the main melody go up into the next octave for a bit as a building block for the entrance at around 3:20(?) of the organic sound. This would also be improved with a bit more "energetic" sounding string overall, as suggested by George...(who knows those sounds well.) .,leading to a lifted feel with a new direction for the strings at 4:00!!! Good thinking!! and a NICE FULL SOUND..

If I complain, it is for more definition of the melody ...; BUT I say GREAT overall... you are pretty much there with this one!!!

Hope we will hear the finished production soon!!!! ENJOYED It!!

My Regards .. and good to be back with you...!

Thanks for the comments John.

I was only thinking of adding a simple melody at 1:00. But the more I listen to it, the more I feel that nothing needs to be added. As for going up an octave for the part at 3:20....that could be done, maybe if I just added a few notes an octave higher to play in sync with the melody. I did do that in the beginning. But I feel it doesn't really need to get too complicated.

Also, I don't know if I will be changing around the strings. A few have said they sounded great, a few said they needed a change of sound....so I feel they don't need to be changed. I liked the sound when I was recording them.

Thanks again for listening John, I appreciate the thoughts and appreciation. :)

Hi ...And thanks for the come-back!!..

Actually I agree with you on the additional melody line; it all seems complete as it is, so it may be best to leave it..... Good Work and I enjoyed it, and will be looking at your next I hope today..

Regards!!! John

I`m not sure how "bleak" this is for my ears......certainly heading in that direction but the images I receive are not necessarily taking me there. I love the strings and various instrumental voices you have engaged here...and can imagine an opening/closing sequence on the big screen with this driving the visual......well done!
CHEERS!

Yeah, I imagined traveling through a bleak landscape for this particular song. Like barren lands or something.

Thanks Ron. :)
