Is it possible to connect a USB keyboard to a Korg Electrib?

I bought a KORG Electribe. I know if I can connect a USB keyboard (like NANOKEY). I have a MIDI to USB adapter that works well with the PC.

I know I can connect the keyboard to the PC then the KORG Electribe and use software to send data from the keyboard or received in the KORG Electribe, but I want to know if you can send the data directly without using a PC

You can hook them up, but it won't work.

A USB keyboard like nanoKEY requires a USB Host. A Midi to USB adapter is not a USB Host, it's a USB interface.

You need a keyboard with a MIDI Out to control an Electribe. I suggest a Novation SL MKII, 25 keys at a minimum.

You can use a program such as Ableton to do this. You send the MIDI Out from the keyboard out of the program to the specific MIDI Channels of the synths.

I don't know how to do this for other programs but for Ableton set up an External Instrument on a MIDI Track for each Electribe synth and set up the External Instrument for each accordingly. Make sure the MIDI In on each track is set for the NanoKey and MIDI Out to the Electribe. Make sure your Electribe PCEN settings are set up to allow external control.

I sequence my electribe from Ableton and play Electribe synths via a MIDI Keyboard in Ableton that depending on the MIDI Channel plays my EMX-1, Radias-R, and Ableton synths.

did you miss the part where he said he knows he can do it using software on the PC, but wants to do it without using the PC?

In my country i saw in online shop device which can do such thing. Unfortunately i cant remember the name of site.
So...such thing exist.

a quick look at http://www.midisolutions.com didn't reveal anything they do that fits the bill, but thought they should be mentioned as their boxes really can do some wonderful things to MIDI without needing to run a computer to process/change/edit/merge/re-route/latency-correct the information, and i half expected them to have something to fit your needs.

But iConnectMidi will have an MSRP of $199.99 and is not officially shipping until March / April 2011, based on what their FAQ says.

I think I'll stick with my midi controllers that have midi out, like the Korg padKontrol.
